I have this model in my closet, it has been in there for about 18 years. I have wanted to build it but as a rank amateur I just have never dared try it. I am a veteran of the USS Iowa, I served as a gunners mate in 16 inch turret one. The Iowa lives on in my mind on a daily basis as I am sure you can imagine why and I wish I could have you build one of these for me with all the loving detail so I could mount it on a shelf and look at it every day.

Thank you for your service! The Iowa class battleships are awesome. I've been on the Missouri twice, had the honor visit her while she was still on active duty and now as she sits as a museum at Pearl Harbor next to the Arizona memorial. What an honor also to be standing by the plaque where MacArthur and the Japanese Prime Minister signed the unconditional surrender of Japan!

I have this model and have been waiting to get it all together. I might just start it this year. I served aboard this amazing vessel from Mar 1990 - Decommissioning in March 1992. I was the Turret 3 Electrician during gun quarters. I want to get the wooden deck pack for it to give it a really good look. I can't wait to get mine done and compare it to yours.

Nice job man looks great! I’m close to pulling the trigger on buying the 1/350 uss Missouri 1991 kit and this is definitely helping! Lol. I did notice that you built the uss New Jersey 1982 kit because the superstructure was unique on the New Jersey compared to the other three Iowa class ships. And I like the added touch of the helicopter haha

finally, a video that has the full assembly and painting with detailed explanations and no extra kits. I have been searching for this since I am very interested in buying one and I could not find a video without extra kits. I am between this and the Yamato. This has the small PE kit included which is better than the Yamato because it has none unless I spend more $$ to buy de detailed version but I cant afford it. Thank you for sharing. I think I will get this one. I will probably buy some generic handrails just to add a bit more detail to the ship, if I can find some because it is very hard to get them in Mexico. Greetings from Mexico.

Thank you! I have built the Musashi from Tamiya once, and i have to admit that i enjoyed the Missouri build much more. But it will probably come down to personal preference for either ship. The small PE parts set in this kit are a good addition to the kit.

Great build, and thank you for showing this. I have the same kit and have the time now to dive in and start the build. Im curious in watching your process, what did. you use for your glue, and what technique was used in applying it? I marvel at builders that can put together a ship of this quality and have no glue marks. Thank you for any wisdom you can share. Cheers.

Love watching your videos. Just an observation,I think your hull red is a couple shades to brown from red. That's just me,still love the builds. I build and tend to modify,1\25 scale semi trucks,I've built a couple small scale ships as a kid,but nothing compared to what's available today! I've actually carved more boats than built plastic kits. Well carved and built up with sheet bass wood. Take care,be safe and stay healthy.
@funinscale28923 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! I use the premixed Tamiya Hull Red, i think it is especially made for Japanese ships, as most countries have their own anti corrosion paint, probably with different parts of iron or copper to get different colours! Carving a whole boat from wood? that sounds impressive! How long does that take?
@tomcline56313 жыл бұрын
@@funinscale2892 Carved most of the hull from small bass wood blocks and built up the decks and superstructure from sheet. Did a Liberty ship and a Victory ship,both modelled after ships my grandpa served on in WW2. They're about a foot long , little less, with the cranes and everything. Took about a week of pretty steady work to do each one. Then I've also did some that were like cartoon ships, like little caricatures, of the Missouri, the Nimitz ,and some old style pre dreadnought battleships. Those took 2 or 3 evenings to do each. Did a transitional type battle ship,you know steam and sail, that has a removable main deck so you can look down on the fully detailed gun deck. That one took me over a month,it's about 8 inches long.It was carved and balanced to float on an even keel O and with a decent waterline/freeboard. Did a Edmund Fitzgerald that's over a foot long, that was pretty easy until I got to the superstructure,and looked at a mislabeled reference photo and had to strip it all off to the main deck and start over! Including the rebuild the Ed took several weeks working mainly on weekends. I've carved some scale airplanes also. 1\48 scale, TBM bomber,F4F Wildcat,a couple others I can't remember. Those took a week or so of evenings to do. Can't carve much any more,my arthritis is so bad. Really miss it. I concentrate on my scale semi's now, they're my winter and mid summer projects mostly,due the time of driving I do,haul grain during harvest, ridiculous hours for 3 1\2 months or sometimes 4 then a couple months hauling out of our storage bins in the winter/spring. I can get quite a bit done during my downtime,but I usually have one on the go all the time for weekends you know. One of these days, hopefully this year, a friend of mine is gonna help me set up a you tube channel and tell me how to upload videos,so I might have some of these things,photos, and build videos. Hopefully. Anyway,I subscribed and I plan on going back and watching more of your builds. Take care.

I have watched a couple of these Tamiya builds and am curious as to what type glue is used as the parts seem to move around easily but then are firmly in place. I am an old, 82, plastics modeller, but have not kept up with the latest glues, etc. Would appreciate any help you could give.

@funinscale28924 жыл бұрын
Yes, the 1/350 are definitely more appealing than 1/700, just because of their massive size! If you don't mind the subject, some Trumpeter 1/350 kits of modern ships, like the USS Freedom or HMS Kent, are around 20€ where i live, so they are quite cheap for what you get
