Oh, to be "Haze Gray and Underway" once again! She's in drydock now (September 2022) for some well-deserved yard time. I'm eager for Opening Day! Special THANK YOU to everyone involved in this restoration work. God Bless USS TEXAS

Although the video itself is impressive I’m more amazed at the audio. The men talking really makes the video come alive.

In her youth and tremendous power . All of her men who she will protect and they will take care of her. What an awesome sight . The grand old lady deserves all the TLC she is getting now .

She's the last of her kind, there's no other WWI era dreadnoughts in the world besides the Texas. Also worth mentioning that on D day the Texas was shelling the Atlantic wall at Normandy. I don't think I'd want to be in a position getting shelled by 14" guns.

When the Texas was alive and kicking. They should show this film to those people who want to restore her.

At 2 min 49 sec her lowering the Union Jack at her bow announced officially "Underway." USS Texas is officially sortied! At the same time Colors is shifted from the Aft flag staff to the Yardarm.

Texas looked so sleek and clean. No radar antennas and no antiaircraft guns and tubs literally everywhere.

I went to Galveston to see Her in drydock. What a sight! It would be totally awesome to hear the ship, but no steam in her boiler !

She is indeed. Still is too, what other battleship served 2 world wars and still floats today. I'd love it if they'd restore at least her horn, I'd be awesome to hear the old gal sing once more.

@@notadream-tt3cn no way to do it without generating steam. The boilers and steam piping are all way too far gone.
@notadream-tt3cn2 жыл бұрын
@@semajniffirg230 no not impossible, you could simply have a compresser. Wouldn't be the first time museum's have don't that. It does change the tone a little however

Forty-five million dollars? What a bargain! I can't wait until her restoration is complete.

Over a billion dollars in 2022. Still not nearly as much as a modern carrier.

@@ed9492 The limited amount of dry dock repairs it’s undergoing right now (October 2022) is going to cost around 35 million all in. Just FYI. They got a bargain back in the day with the amount of use they got out of the old girl.

$45 million? Wow!!! In 1912 (I think) when The Texas was built, that's billions in today's money...awesome to see this old footage of this machine while she was still active

Although she’s state of the art by WW1 and interwar standards, Texas today looks no less intimidating. Would love to hear her whistle under full steam pressure with modern recording technology… this 1930s recording does enough to make her look AND sound like she means business, though.

That might have been a good time to be in the Navy, during the depression, with a job, a place to sleep, eat, and get health care, and not fighting a war.

Why was the naval ensign lowered at the same time the last line was cast off?
@danielhacker61472 жыл бұрын
The ensign is only flown in port from what I understand.
@paramounttechnicalconsulti52192 жыл бұрын
@@danielhacker6147 Thanks! And with usual naval efficiency, "in port" ends when the last line is slipped.
@jimbo64132 жыл бұрын
Yup, the Jack and the Ensign are both lowered (Jack is flown at the forecastle and Ensign at the stern) while the Ensign is simultaneously raised amidships (just behind the pilothouse) when the ship gets underway.
@hughculliton3174 Жыл бұрын
When a ship slips and proceeds to sea, her sigs and deck dept strike her jack and ensign from the bow and stern, and run-up her steaming ensign from the mast head. In a smart ship, it happens as 1 action. It's also a visual signal to shipping that the vessel is underway and making way.
