I was serving at the Naval Communication Unit at MIdway Island (Technically, the "Midway Islands") at the transmitter site in the late 60's when the Enterprise cruised by pretty near. We asked them if they would like us to handle some of their message traffic. They answered something like "You couldn't handle our message traffic". We had a number of 10KW transmitters and so did they. But they also had some 40KW transmitters and we didn't.

We all love the USS enterprise. The USS Yorktown is one of my favorite ships but it isn't my all time favorite
@trainliker1004 жыл бұрын
@@southernwolfgaming Actually, it was extremely rare that Morse code would be used once vastly better methods developed. Most communication was teletype and used multiplexed single sideband transmission which meant you could have 16 channels on the upper sideband and 16 channels on the lower. To the human ear, this all just sounded like a growl. The second most form of communication was voice. The only time Morse code would be used if there was no other way to communicate or if there was some problem and that was the only way to tell the other end to shift to a different frequency or something. If you want to learn the Morse code, just look it up and start learning. You want to make sure you use "International Morse Code". There is a different version that was used by railroads in the U.S. called "Railroad Morse Code" or more correctly "American Morse Code". You don't want that. Today, Morse Code isn't even required anymore for a ham radio license. And I think it should be.

Finally I found someone who does 1/350 scale ships. Once I saw the bow of #1, I guessed correctly. It's one model I've have been eyeballing for a while, but chose to go with a different choice as my first warship, the USS Iwo Jima LHD-7. Before this, I've only done other ships than warships, like Queen Mary 2 1/400 (Revell, old kit) and RMS Titanic 1/700 and currently working on Cutty Sark 1/96 (Revell). Never been a particular fan of warships nor would I consider ever doing them unless I've ran out of choices for ships. Even considering starting with wooden ships to continue doing sailboats, Cutty Sark has ignited my passion for scale models. There are still a few civil ships / sailboats to do before I move to warships.
