When you go to sleep at night, remember these guys and girls are out there patrolling the waters, keeping you a little bit safer.

The people aboard the submarines have a different lifestyle than those on the surface ships, and do make use of all the area of their ships to do as much work, pleasure, and physical fitness as well. I first wanted to go into the Navy, but was glad later on that I ended up in the Air Force. I still appreciate how those in the Navy adapted to their work environment.

Back in my Navy days, you wrote a letter home, and got a response about a month later. The Greyhound was a welcome sight indeed on the carrier.

@@HvyMetal4Ever Yeah, when we would be on prop wash duty, we used to have to bring the mail buoy guy a slider.

@v8subie My God does this bring back some memories! The airport in Rome. The short flight across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Catania. Mount Etna. Sigonella Naval Air Station. A long drive through the beautiful countryside of Sicily. And finally, aboard the USS Toledo SSN 769. Hot Damn! I'll never forget those 10 days in La Maddalena. That was over 13 years ago.

2 billion dollar for this sub equal to a B-2 bomber..it make this sub look low tech for the price. But still a dangerous weapon.

In my days, Submarines were called Boats not Ships as this Skipper called his Boat. I hate Political Correctness especially in the Military.

Dont be crying about correct definitions too hard
@SaltiDawg20084 жыл бұрын
Don't be a moron. Submariners use both the term "ship" and also "boat" to refer to a submarine usage. I servd on two diesel boats and three SSNs. Some correct usage on ALL of those five boats was: "Rig *Ship* For Dive"; "Two inches pressure in the *boat* " *s/ Retired 24 Year US Navy Submariner - USNA Class of 1965 - Former Enlisted Man*

Why does it take two people to drive the sub? Wouldn't a single control like an aircraft yoke work to control the dive planes and rudder? Or even a simple joystick since it's all hydraulic powered anyway.
@SaltiDawg20084 жыл бұрын
Redundancy for safety. Lose hydraulics and one man could not manage.

Troll!
@safeysmith67202 жыл бұрын
He’s not trolling, he’s being sarcastic. If he’s trolling, he’s trolling Russia. That was the claim some spineless Russian naval people made, instead of taking any responsibility for the tragic Kursk accident, which happened during an exercise, and was the result of poor training and incompetence.
@giuseppegranatiero2 жыл бұрын
I'm not trolling! What happened to Kursk is still not clear because full reports on that accident were never published by russian navy and are still classified nowdays. That's why I used the word "supposed". However it's an histarical fact that the Toledo together with Menphis were both on the accident area checking Russian fleet maneuvers. Nobodies knows if there was a collision or not... Or at least, nobody outside the two government and the people who was there
