The USS Zumwalt is the largest and most advanced surface combatant in the world. The Zumwalt is the flagship of a new class of multi-mission destroyers aimed at bolstering naval might. The ship has an advanced electric propulsion system, a wave-penetrating tumblehome hull, a stealth design, and the most up-to-date warfare technology, armaments, and processing capacity to enable the Navy to complete maritime operations at sea. The DDG 1000 class's cutting-edge technology provides adaptability and allows for continuous operations in coastal and land attack, as well as supporting special operations troops and serving as an important member of combined expeditionary forces. Its multi-mission design and littoral capabilities make it a globally deployable Fleet and Combatant Command capability.

It’s not that the zumwalt is too expensive per se, it’s that it was meant to support a railgun and that shit fell through.

@@BakuganBrawler211well let's see, have a slow battleship jacked with weapons with tons of issue due to aging systems (besides those that can be replace there are that can't be) who's slow as heck with just one strike from an anti ship missile/hypersonic could easily be dissabled and cause a major financial crisis in the us for bringing an old battleship from the dead due massive expenses similar to having a us carrier sunk or have newer and smaller yet faster and maneuverable vessels that has advance systems and weapons with stealth abilities that can be harder enough for missiles and drones to hit at sea with low financial risks. What would it be?

@basilika2136 the zumwalt was just delivered to ingalls Shipbuilding and thats what they plan to do. Upgrades for hypersonic missiles.

@@user-mi3xj3td1c the US long range hypersonic weapon entered service in 2023. The US also has 2nd generation stealth bomber, the B-21, while no other country even has first generation. Also the long range hypersonic missiles goes mach 17, faster than any Chinese hypersonic missiles

I like all the trash talking on here. It's comical. Just wait until they have received all the updates in addition to getting hypersonic missiles installed. Lots of things we can do with these ships. The platform itself is awesome. Have to see to appreciate.

The ZUMWALT Class is actually a CLG, in size, weihht, 6” main battery, etc. These 3 ships will, in my opinion, be redesignated as “Assault ships” ad thrir 6” naval rigles will be replaced with VLMS cells.

Not worth it, the cost estimates on this high tech destroyer renders an automatic cancelation not to mention the advanced gun system didn't work that well.

No CIWS that would help a lot to defend the ship from anti ship missile and the ship is not as a stealthy like the B2 stealth bomber aircraft. The ship still detectable on radar as a size of a fishing vessel.
