It was so cool to see this as a Dutch USWNT fan. I have been a fan since the 2011 world cup. At that time I was 14 and the Netherland’s Women’s team wasn’t what it is today (the 2015 world cup was the first ever world cup for the Dutch team). I became a big fan and tried to watch the games and of course watched a lot of the Behind The Crest videos🙂. Now the Netherlands’ women’s team has become a big team in the women’s game, winning the 2017 Euros and playing against the U.S in the 2019 world cup final. I honestly didn’t even know who to root for (well secretly I might have hoped for a Dutch upset😉). Now the USWNT has been to the Netherlands for a training camp and has played against them again. I am really sad that because of the circumstances no public was allowed (completely understandable though!!). Otherwise I would have definitely gone to see the game. The last time they played in Holland was in 2013 and I unfortunately couldn’t go 😔, so it would have been awesome to get a chance to see the USWNT live. Anyway, congrats USA, you just were way better this time 🥳🇺🇸 hopefully the two teams meet again at the olympics, see you then✌🏾🤙🏻⚽️🇳🇱🇺🇸

The Dutch are my second favorite team behind the USWNT of course because they’ve invested in the game and their women’s team. It’s great for the sport. Since the victory tours she hasn’t been back. I think our midfield is the strength of the team and it’s so stacked that Long with all her qualities isn’t the very best the US has for that role. We’ve gotten more players who are task with creativity, box to box and distribution which she doesn’t command a lead over any of them. I’ll be surprise to see her back in the group going forward.

USWNT rocks, but wish there was more diversity. Dunn is great, and one of my favorite players, but where is the Hispanic representation. Only knock I have this that soccer is a rich kid sport in the US and majority white rich girls that can afford private coaches.

There are some POC coming up. Some black girls in the pipeline to join soon. Changes are coming but it’s slow. I wish there were more Latinos and Hispanics on the team. They need support at the community level to get the elite training expected of a USWNT player. US Soccer has to do more. I love the USWNT and I’m black and my family cheers for the team. We’re very proud of the team. it’s not a knock but they can do better with diversity.

To be fair US had to fail in 17 to get the team away from that generation of players to what we have now which signals how the nation looks. Our guys mirror how the country is changing. We’ve had the first Muslim USMNT player with Musah in the locker room. With the USWNT it is, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it mentality. It’s slow but the team will reflect a broader based in the next two years with players retirement.
