My dad was a junior translator for the Moscow branch of a major British newspaper, and was actually a spectator for the 1989 and 1990 parades, and is somewhere in the crowd when the camera pans over the masses of people. He told me that there were people in the crowd trying not to openly weep as they suspected that the regime was starting to wind down and that everything would soon end. The old man was a fierce fan of Margaret Thatcher and a staunch Protestant Christian, but had a fascination with the USSR since he was a child, and even he had a tear in his eye when the anthem started. God bless the Russian people.

@oliverreno47342 жыл бұрын
@@FalconKalinius He wasn't, unfortunately lol. He's now head of modern languages as at a school. He does have some very funny stories involving Russians whom he suspected were KGB agents. He once had the rear view mirror fall down from his Lada press car that he was given in Moscow, only to reveal a microphone dangling down from the roof, probably where the intelligence services had bugged the car. He was also 'hit on' by a very beautiful woman on the train from Poland to Russia, whom he was convinced was KGB, as she kept asking him where he was staying what his political affiliations were etc. Once she was satisfied he was an ordinary worker she stood up and abruptly left. His Telephone in his apartment was obviously bugged, as it would start buzzing when he was being listened to and stop working from time to time. plus, he would hear breathing down the other end of the line where another monitoring telephone was connected. Once he needed to make an urgent telephone call to his office, but again the phone wasn't working. He was a little bit pissed off with all of this, so he ended up going outside and throwing rocks at the apartment window of his suspected Russian handlers. When they opened the window, two attractive ladies in police uniform leant out, started to giggle, and replied 'don't worry, it'll be fixed when you get back inside', and sure enough it was XD. There are a few more stories that I could tell; but he witnessed the Tanks rolling down Ghorky Plaza in the failed coup attempt, met Leonid Brehznev's family a few times, ended up accidentally having a picnic in a park with a badly disguised SAM battery missle launcher concealed 30 meters away. Interesting times. The reality is that in the 90s at least, most of these people were hugely incompetent and knew the country was on its knees, so couldn't be bothered to do their jobs properly.

The only thing in this version that stands out better than the others is that you can hear the drums very clear and powerful.

It sounds like it would fit the dissolution music, as if they knew it was too late for the USSR to stabilize

The coup hadn’t happened yet, so they still could’ve mostly stayed together as the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics, but we all know how that ended.

Its Kinda on crazy how the ex-Second Secretary and ex First Deputy Chairman of the Soviet Union is still alive at 97 years from the early 30s to late 50s!

The USA bands should learn to play the Star Spangled Banner like this for the last time, because it’s coming soon.

Unless Biden becomes president after beating Trump. If Trump wins, then it would be the last time, since Trump is a despot who wants to destroy everything that made America great and not fix any problems (like racial divide and COVID-19).

By referring to the final collapse of CCCP in the following year i.e. 1991, I am afraid that the anthem itself should be renamed as 'A Self-defeating Union'…
