I'm a pitcher in a slow pitch softball league in South Florida. Getting hit is an occupational hazard for a pitcher. I wear a helmet and shin guards. I also know that if I pitch either outside or a loop down the middle, that I need to be extra ready. It happens.

2 things. 1, If any of us normal folks would fight like this at the places that pay us then we'd not have jobs. 2, if any non conference teams acted like this at a usssa tourney then we would automatically be suspended a year. I'd be shocked If any suspensions happen to these big bad paid to play guys tho

The Best part about this. NOBODY is saying anything about Dodds almost killing sanchez up the middle in their first game. That hit was closer to middle than the one that hits the pitcher in the head in this game. Yet because it wasn't hit in the head and Because MPT doesn't bitch like Reyna and such. Nothing comes from it. Everybody moves on and continues play. Resmondo's pitcher jumps into the hole, 3 feet off the mound and gets smoked and everyone is up in arms about it being a middle shot, etc. Like this makes me laugh so much.

OK question for everyone here: Is it just me or did I see that after throwing the pitch the pitcher had both hands down below the waist? He was not in a defensive position to protect his head. I don't know if he wears the helmet so he does take a hit off the dome but I also noticed he didn't run back after the pitch to create further distance, yes?

Pretty sure that’s just normal. You don’t react until the balls coming at you. You’re not sure whether the balls coming high or low. Gotta be ready for either one.

I pitched an played turney ball for 40 years, real skilled hitter don’t hit pitchers they hit by the pitchers for hits, at this point put a screen up if you hit it first time you’re out, then the most skilled hitters will prevail!
@kevinmccarty8632
@kevinmccarty8632 Жыл бұрын
As a former pitcher for only 30 years i agree. If you want to trade off you could put some more restrictions on pitchers and cut out some of the u- trip antics i would trade that for the screen and ruled an out. Of course restrict the screen in size of have exact placement marks for righty and lefty pitchers. Then if pitcher does want to jump a hole and abondon his screen hes fair game . But what to we do about thown ball from outfield etc hitting screen. Dead ball ? Or play it as live since defense benefited from the chance for free outs on the front end. On second thought make hitting the screen a foul ball. Yeah that wouldnt be as punitive or contoversial but still accomplish the safety aims.

I don't know this to be true but I'm gonna assume you don't hit like most Major players. Especially Big John. Keep in mind these two teams have been playing the past few days in the heat and are probably irritable. There's no doubt that when pitchers step on the mound they know what they sign up for. There's also no doubt that if a teams pitcher gets hit in the head with a liner up the middle, expect for retaliation. Whether that's opening middle up on your pitcher or any other dumb physical ways. Not saying it's right but I'm saying I understand the philosophy. People may not like Reyna because of all of his other antics but I know I'd stand up for my friend if that were to happen to him. Big John does seem to be in the mix a lot when it comes to these things though. That being said, we have a lot of other issues in the world gentlemen, we don't have to create more.

I guess I’m ignorant to the rules of modern slow pitch. I played lots and lots of slow pitch 20 plus years ago after I got too old for baseball. A shot up the middle was just considered a good hit. Yes On certain pitches I could go opp field, but for the most part I just tried to make good solid contact and the ball went where it went. If it went up the middle pitchers didn’t get mad or insulted. Is it because these guys are so good that a ball up the middle is a no no?

As a pitcher in a slow pitch league, and I get it's nowhere near the level these guys are playing. This was totally the pitchers fault. I'm not saying he didn't make the "RIGHT" play, he pitched outside, but he moved over to make a play. Had he not cheated to that side knowing where he pitched. He would not have gotten hit. He did not go straight middle, and would have in fact missed the pitcher by a good 2 feet easy, had the pitcher still been on the mound. This doesn't look intentional, and the pitcher was fine. I know the risks of pitching, and I know i could get hit. our league being way calmer, usually i'm pretty happy with a sorry or something when it happens, and we can move on. Reyna really does just like to trash talk, but if he watches it back. Totally the pitchers fault on this one.

Ok so how is it the hitters fault and the pitcher fell into the hole and if you watch he pitched to the hitter for that outside hit to happen so don’t understand all the hostility he knew when it hit him where he pitched it but he fell right in the hole if he would have put a glove up it might not have looked so bad but he knew that thing was coming back sorry he got hit but as a pitcher that’s why you have the gear

Guy intentionally goes middle, knowingly drills pitch in the head, then proceeds to "leg out" a triple. What a hero. Worked out well for Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite, too.

Looks to me (if you slow down the video) that the batter was going 1-4 hole. The pitcher actually moves to his left to cover that hole. The pitch also looks like it was on the outside half of the plate: aka...get ready for an oppo swing... Had the pitcher stayed in the middle, the ball would not have hit him. If the pitcher is going to move to close a hole, he needs to expect that the ball may come at him. At least that is the way it looks to me. I don't know the context of what happened before this....or the players....so I can't speak to "intentionality" or not.

Thr pitch did not move to fill the hole. The pitcher was pitching from the first baseline of the rubber and took maybe a half step. His right foot was still touching the rubber when the ball hit him. But I agree it part of the game being a pitch myself. The problem is the people that do it. John Williams is a pos in my opinion. He went to some low level tournament and suplexed some dude from behind. Andrew Collins is the same in my book.

Simple solution to solve hitting middle. Put an 8 foot area up the middle and bring the mat back. If the ball gets batred up the middle with a mat, it is more then likely intentional.the Any ball hit in the 8 foot area results in the inning ended. No 5 man infield and guys with learn to place the ball again instead of just trying to hit it through someone.

Still no reason for anyone to go box. I know occasionally it happens, but some pricks do it intentionally. I saw it a lot when I use to play in B’s. No excuse for it.

Dude threw and outside pitch and drifted that way. End of story. Nobody is trying to hit anybody, shit happens. I pitch and you can tell when a dude is trying to hit the pitcher. Guy hit it nearly 5 feet off the rubber.

Next time the pitcher shouldn't try to close the gap and stay in his lane, the batter should e stopped to and if the pitch was ok. I've pitched before, been hit before too it's part of the game. Move on to the next.

Regular USSSA tourney they would of forfeited both teams. Hope you see this USSSA and be equal. We pay to play at tourneys we expect your umpires to be the same way these guys are to the "Conference" players as to us, and change your punishment for fighting to at least 2 months not a year.

Played for 25+ years. Something I've never understood...is that the upper players...those with the most talent, most ability, usually played alittle college ball or even minor leagues...are always they biggest cheaters when it comes to doctored bats and balls. And of course using the juice. Why? It would make total sense for D/E players to do those things because of lack of ability. But those that are the most gifted are the biggest cheats in the game. Make it make sense...

I get being protective of your pitcher. But why is there so much heat when they get hit. I do not beleive anyone does it on purpose. Well might be 1 or 2 and then its obvious. But majority its just where the ball is placed and the swing happens. Do what other leagues do. Put up a net. Hit the net its a strike. Still start with 1-1. Pitcher is not allowed to go after ball. Problem solved. Cannot act all big and tough and say nets for wimps then come unglued when you get hit. Make a choice and then play the game. ❤❤ occupatuonal hazard. Cant take the heat, stay off the mound.
