Amjad Ali Khan Bangash (born 9 October 1945) is an Indian classical sarod player, best known for his clear and fast ekhara taans. Khan was born into a classical musical family and has performed internationally since the 1960s. He was awarded India's second highest civilian honor Padma Vibhushan in 2001.

Why did the West choose sophistication and complexity in numbers (Euclid) while India chose language (PaaNini) although India did have Zero and the place value system, etc.? One has to wonder and ponder about it. The complexity of Tabla drumming partly if not mostly result from its rootedness in basic nine syllables: On the right hand= ta, na, tin, tun, Ta, and tira AND on the left hand = Ge, Ke, Gin and combinations thereof, such as Dhin (Gin + ta), trkT, DNGN, takanaka, etc. and those bols' (verbal phrases') capacity to be memorized and later to be reincarnated in unforeseen combinations very much as in the case of spoken language amazing even the creator by their novelty and spontaneity. Long live the art of tabla playing and Pakhvaaj playing from which the former originated.
