The Sarangi Maestro Ustad Sultan Khan was a soulful musician - his Sarangi evoking the most delicate of human feelings and sentiment. During a Sama Arts concert at the Royal College of Music in London in October 1990 he presented a performance tracing khayal compositions of the legends like Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Amir Khan. The concert was released by Navras Records on a double CD album titled "The Legend Continues" (NRCD 0112/3). Accompanying him on the tabla was the great Pakistani percussionist Ustad Shaukat Hussain Khan and Loveleena Labroo on Tanpura . Sultan Khan Saheb ended the concert with a most moving rendition of a Rajasthani folk melody based on Raga Mishra Shivranjani - both in his voice and with the Sarangi accompaniment. An informal in-house video recording of the concert was made and although it lacks professional quality we are sharing this short but most beautiful song to bring back the memories of that evening and two stalwarts of the classical music tradition of the Indian sub-continent. There are momentary flaws in the video picture but it takes nothing from the enjoyment of the sheer beauty of the experience going back over 30 years.
