Playing Tabla or for that any instrument is a mind game. What you need the most is "presence of mind". Both are super brilliant.

This was good... But the ultimate was when Zakir ji was accompanying Shiv ji in a live performance (Raga Rageshree), where he fitted Teental in Jhaptaal... And that was really jaw dropping performance... Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHXddoyurtqhftk... Start at 43:00 minutes...

I have very little, almost no knowledge of music, but I enjoy listening to Indian Classical music thoroughly.I consider myself blessed and fortune just to be in the presence of legends like these two. What an absolute delight it was to watch both of them play. I wish more and more such concerts be organised in Pune.

Zakirbhai's playing is phenomenal and he is running circles around Shahidbhai. the leh is so strange yet beautiful! sounds like the sitar can't keep up. sometimes it's better to play nagma if you're out of shape!

I can confirm this is certainly not the best of Ustad ji's. Maybe because they were performing after a long time. Messed up places big time.

@Prato Das which of the two Ustad's are you referring to.

The reason he played what he did was in response to what Shahid ji played. They complement each other beautifully.

Ustad Zakir ji's layakari is hell confusing to me. He could have shortened the passage I believe. Could somebody explain me., may be Suvrat Apte-ji...???

Indeed...but I think this is pure creation and risk that only Masters like them can take onstage...

Ustad Shahid Parvez bandish is so hard and beatiful...wah! For tabla player, it is nightmare...
@Houz237 жыл бұрын
If not wrong, he plays 16 beats over 2 cycles of 7...
Sorry but the beauty of the music has probably taken a backseat in this razzmatazz of layakari. This whole interchange could have been summarized to maybe a minute or minute and a half. 3.mins and 40 secs is a tad too long to exhibit laykari fun games. Honestly, I could not derive the fun out of it. Maybe it is my limitation but I have to be honest about it.
