The #USWNT snapped a losing streak on Sunday night, coming back against Germany for a 2-1 win.
The United States women’s national team defeated Germany, 2-1 on Sunday to avoid the futile record of the first four-game losing streak in program history.
The result matters for that reason alone, but the performance was of greater importance for a team that has struggled to secure an identity as it races toward next summer’s World Cup. The first half hardly brought those answers, but the second half, which saw the Americans erase a 1-0 deficit, might just become a defining moment of this cycle - either as a turning point or an anomaly that papered over the larger problems.

Good game. Great credit to USWNT for coming back from a goal down, when they were facing an unprecedented four successive defeats, to win. But Germany will rue the normally efficient Magull's miss just before the US's goals. Popp surprisingly quiet in the game, she was such a presence in the Euros. Pugh and Smith showing some good form on the international stage.

Mal was at midfield when she started tracking the ball. No one knew what was coming except her. Awesome! The German defenders never put a body on her. They were preoccupied with Alex Morgan giving her a convoy every time she goes downfield.

Our team is always great to watch - but it is interesting to see other teams getting even more competitive. It's not a given anymore that the US will just walk off with the victory. It's great to see that our ladies have not let our world cup victories and general dominion over the sport go to their heads!

Rest of the world, is definitely closing the gap. In Spain and England, there are two teams ahead of you , currently. It's all good, the game developing as it is. Spain will be tough to beat in Australia.

The 1st half was worryingly erratic, we struggled under pressure and too many poor passes. Some of these issues lingered in the 2nd half but a much better performance from the US. Mallory Pugh was just brilliant, her confident calm against defenders on goal and her runs were immense. A bit more work to be done on her finishing, just less hesitancy on goal and she will be indestructible. Good shifts from Sullivan and Girma as always. I want whatever they're putting in the Stanford water cause their girls are excellent.

Alex is a starter the only other forward is Hatch.... and Morgan is 200% better than Hatch, if you know anything about soccer Alex can get 3 or 4 defenders on her, so that frees up another player.. ( one of the best in the world)

germany's too much passing to their backside.one mistake - blunder. midfielders can't see the free space teammates who can be passed to press on attack. inconsistent on attack even on two to one. players on attack should always be aware to keep near ready to receive a pass if the ones attacking will be crowded with defenders or the keeper.

US is losing the competitive edge because all major soccer powers get better, and honestly they have better coaches in every level of the their men's soccer levels are simply much higher. US still has better athletes but in terms of soccer language - passing, US is falling behind already.

Although it is ' possible ' to score a goal without being in possession of the ball , it is ' much more likely ' that you will score, if you do have the ball. Just athletic ability , rather than football skills? not enough concentration on passing skills and an impatience to score as fast as possible. every time the Usa gets the ball, they race towards the other goal. that will work with lower teams, but top teams will just soak up the pressure and be patient and come back at you and score. something like that :)

Vlatko needs to make up his mind, either we are rebuilding for the future or just experimenting while hoping to win. To rebuild you must choose your players and play them consistently. He is not doing this and it shows in the player's confidence. Name the starters and stick with them, building their confidence. Get rid of the oldies, Rapinoe, Morgan, Horan, Dunn, and others. Rebuild for the future.

But, if you go on the games played " by top 10 teams against other top ten teams " in the past year, then yes, the Usa would rank about 4th or 5th. And the Usa are # 1 by only 5 points, and a game can be worth 8-10 points or more. So it is possible that the Usa might not be #1 within the next month or so.
