This is what the a weekend in the life of a UT Austin student looks like as a business student.
Maybe you got admitted into UT Austin or are interested in applying. Either way it's hard to imagine a life outside of school from K-12. College can be a confusing time - unlike high school where you go to 8 hours of school a day, there's a different sense of freedom and flexibility that college provides. That's why every student's lives looks different. What should you expect going into university? This video takes a look at what Lisa's life is like as a McCombs student at Texas longhorn.

What job do you have that allows you to travel a lot? I’m applying to UTD for international business and saw your guide to studying abroad for cheap, does your job now have some part in you being able to travel a lot or is it on your own free time now? I’m only trying to get a international business degree so I get a job that allows me to travel globally a lot but am uninformed on what jobs that would be or if I’m completely in the wrong degree for that dream job. Thank You!

hey! I work at Microsoft in marketing. There's more flexibility in tech for working from home when traveling, making me inclined to take weekend trips. In my opinion (and I could be wrong) I don't think international business is a good business major. You learn a lot about how business works from a more macro scale (think macroeconomics but internationally), but this theoretical knowledge doesn't help you land your first job. I think my opinion is backed by the fact that I've never personally known an international business major at my business school, which is crazy considering how there's nearly 13,000 students in mccombs. I think a better career path in business that could allow you to travel globally is consulting. It's a career path where you help out different businesses to make more money by improving strategy or operations. Because you could get clients from many different places or countries, there are quite a few more travel opportunities. The best major to get into this is finance, where you learn how to work with numbers and to boost your analytical skills. Let me know if you any additional questions!

The Quarter Life Traveler wow thank you for this! I would love to travel and I’m a mccombs student wondering what I should go into. Do you think finance could also possibly travel as much? I was thinking about going into finance, but I know I would love to travel.

can I ask what made you choose to major in marketing and what your marketing job responsibilities typically consist of? I’m having trouble deciding which business concentration is right for me.
@StevenYen
@StevenYen 4 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! I chose to major in marketing because I felt like I could blend my artistic skills (videography, photography, music) with my business skills (leading a team, working in a group, business strategy) in a way that would be both fun and helpful.

Hey Steven! I barely found your channel and I was wondering if you could maybe give me some advice! This was one of my reddit posts so haha I’ll just copy and paste it! I would love to work in something that allows me to use my creative mindset (visionary). Maybe jobs related to like Creative Director, Content Creator, Marketing, Consumer Behavior stuff, maybe even Graphic Design, UI/UX, Front End Dev to be able to create things people like or see, etc. I’m not really too interested in coding but I know it is a good skill to learn and have because it will take you places, but I personally am not a person that enjoys being part of the process to make things work, rather I am the one that likes to be creative with my ideas and tell them to people and kind of be in the process of the making. Basically, I don’t want to do the work of developing my ideas but I probably wouldn’t mind if I have to also do part of the work to make my ideas come to life. EDIT: here’s some context I am a computer science major at the moment and I am confused whether I should make the switch to MIS or idk maybe IT, because I originally wanted to become a business major. Now I’m introduced to the very technological side of computer science, I am like 50/50 with my decision now. I really was drawn to business because I feel very business minded as a person, but now I am not too sure and am really confused. I am scared that if I major in something that isn’t computer science, and instead something more business focused, I might regret my switch later on in the future.
