On July 22 2011 more than 500 youths at a political summer camp on an island outside Oslo were attacked by an armed, right-wing extremist. Earlier that day he bombed a Government building in Oslo before making his way to Utøya island. In this first fictional movie about the attack we get to know Kaja (18) and her friends. The movie starts when the youngsters, shocked by the bombing in Oslo, are reassuring their relatives that they are far away from the incident. Suddenly, the safe atmosphere is shattered when shots are heard. We then follow Kaja as she tries to survive - minute by minute.

I actually visited Utøya recently (school related) and it was, for a lack of a better word, haunting. Walking down the path where a lot of the people were shot dead- people closer to my age than I’d like- it was disturbing. I can’t even imagine what those teens were feeling. The path is called “kjærlighetsstien» or “the love path” due to the nice view and romantic stories surrounding it. That place will never be the same as it was before 2011.

I lived in Norway, Stavanger, for year's. Am fluent but am writing in English anyway. I know exactly what you're saying here. "Haunting" would be my description of being where so many were murdered, as well. In fact, I would not want to be there at all. After 9/11 here in the U.S., the places where so many were murdered have been turned into memorial site's. No one stays there, they visit only. Utoye would be too spooky for me, too sad.

I just watched the netflix one. I watched it randomly ‘cause thumbnail looks good (Yes that’s how I choose what to watch on netflix.) and it says based on true story. I didn’t know something happened like this in Norway. I was ugly crying on the shooting scene. Like I was sobbing for real. I didn’t even want to finish it anymore. The fact that it happened in real life terrified me so much imagining those kids, probably the same age as me, alone in the island without protection, running for their lives. Oh my god, it was just pure terror.

No fictional horror movie could ever come up with a scenario as horrifying and fucked-up as this. Imagine being a teen stuck on an island with a merciless gunman hunting you down like animals as you cower in whatever less-than-ideal hiding space you can find or muster, all the while hearing your friends be murdered one gunshot after another around you for the next hour and a half as you hope and pray that the next gunshot isn't the last thing you ever hear on this cruel Earth. This wasn't a movie, this actually happened in real life to those poor kids who didn't stand one chance against this psycho. It's a real shame and traversity of justice that Breivik will never justifyingly face the same fate he remorselessly gave to these innocent boys and girls that should've been living the best moments of their lives on that island, not dying on its cold beaches or leaving with a lifetime of extreme PTSD and trauma. May the victims of this horrific crime rest in peace and may its survivors find healing from what they experienced.

Those extremist's on the right, are motivated by hatred of people unlike themselves. The desire of the "good ole' times" is only a diversion to rationalize their hatred. If they were truly motivated for change, they would direct their efforts towards those issues they'd like to change instead of toward those they hate. It's ironic that these people see themselves as great patriots when they themselves are the terrorists that they think they are fighting against.

Isak Stenersen Who gets to decide what's extreme? You? Is replacing Europeans en masse extreme? The establishment says not. Others may think differently. Does it mean Breivik did a nice thing? No it doesn't. But you can acknowledge he had a point even if you disagree with his methods. Brushing these issues under the carpet won't make them go away.

I think you are conflating empathy with sympathy. To empathize with someone means to UNDERSTAND them. It's perfectly possible, and for some, even easy, to understand any person in the whole world, even the most evil people that one despises, if one has an empathetic brain. I suppose you're talking about the people who sympathize with Breivik, since understanding someone can never be a bad thing.

The movie plays about 90 minutes in one take. The actors are marvelous. The screams and shots makes you truly feel the horror and like you’re actually there. Especially when you don’t know that much about the attack and is just as confused and scared as the youths in the movie. Broke my heart when i watched it. I knew it was gonna be worse in a movie but it hit me harder that i thought it would. Even though the characters were fictional, the attacks, the shots, the helicopters. It was all there. Must be horrifying to die in such a young age with your whole life ahead and in addition to having a whole family ruined.

This is the best movie I've ever seen about this type of subject. Not that I like the subject ,it is a real life horror. But people who never experienced things like this can't even imagine this situation and this movie really opens your eyes and put you in a position as a viewer to feel the fear and how it is when you don't know if you'll see another day. We should not close our eyes in front of this horrors but be aware they do exist. I wish they don't but the world can be a cruel place. During the movie that aired on our national television I really was happy every time the commercial came along (usually I detest them). I needed a break to remind myself I am not there. I cried a lot. But couldn't stop watching and hoping that people survive and escape! I was sad for those who died and extremely happy for those who survived but at the same time sad they witnessed horrors they never should have. So many emotions at the same time! And you really ask yourself: "what would I do?" and don't know the answer. I wish that no one knew the answer to this question.

There's a death scene in this that wrecked me. It's a real event and it's filmed in such real time with no hope of the injured getting medical care. It's devastating and makes me weep for the lives lost and hate that people ever dare take the live of another. I'm normally a chill guy but my rule in life is live and let live. Anyone breaks that and I consider them scum. I don't wish death on anyone but for them to feel the full weight of their actions whatever that entails. And for people on a similar path to wake up and get help.

I hate to be the one to say it, but whomever it was that okayed the monster's trip to Utoya and whomever ferried him over. Everyone on that island was relying on them for the security of their lives. They thought the monster was a cop. Based on that misjudgment they let someone who admitted he had weapons on the island. I'm not saying the monster wasn't totally responsible. I'm saying in the same way that the 9/11 hijackers slipped through security he did too..there was a big lapse of security in both cases.
@PelleKuipers
@PelleKuipers 8 ай бұрын
If you'd watched the movie you'd actually know they admitted this afterwards. But you can't check everyone every day. And it's a 100% the responsibility of the person killing others. If you get hit by a car because you didn't look both ways you're gonna blame your friends who were more careful?

I know that it's not important, but why did they have to show the clip of her singing in the trailer. It's not a spoiler or anything, but they were so close to a godamn great trailer. Keep the song in the background. Dont show the clip. It kinda ruins the emotion of it for me.

@Eljulitus
@Eljulitus 4 жыл бұрын
We had only one police helicopter back then. Now we have three. And the reason it took so long was apparently because of the bomb in Oslo (killing 8 people) and the confusion surrounding this. Besides...since the Norwegian police almost never really used the helicopter before this date no one were around to fly it. The whole rescue operation was an embarrassing failure for the police. And a real wake up call for Norway.
@elisabethlarsen4282
@elisabethlarsen4282 4 жыл бұрын
It happened exactly the way Breivik wrote in his manifest. Attract attention in the opposite direction. Utøya is an hour away. Every helicopter, police car, every unit was in Oslo. Plus the police was notified 12 minutes after Breivik shot the first shot. 12 fucking minutes.... Because they only had three open phone lines. When they opened more lines, they saw that they had over 40 calls waiting. It's insane. There were two local police men standing at the shore, looking over at Utøya. They were armed to take down one man. But because the calls from the island said it sounded like there were more than one gunman, they were told to wait.... so another 40 minutes went by.

For those who start about the netflix version. The difference between the Netflix version and this one is as followed. Netflix: Gives Breivik an extra podium to show what his thoughts and ideas were to do the attack. (Just so that Netflix can earn money from it) Norwegian: To show what the children on Utoya actually experienced. Based on stories of survivors. For me it is that Netflix made the movie. Otherwise, I would earlier say that it's propaganda by Breivik himself.
