Well done Glenn. You made the right call. Always listen to your body.

Thank you mate. Yes I’ve ran most days since and body is coming back to normal, just the quads a bit slow to bounce back!

Better than me, I was in group 2 for the 100km and pulled out at checkpoint 3 with hypothermia and barely able to walk for my first ever DNF. Definitely do not regret stopping there, as does my wife. You made the right decision. Will be back next year with better ideas on clothing.

Hey thanks for the comment Clinton. Is this UTA experience from this year? The weather seemed pretty good to have those sorts of issues early.. are you experienced on trail? (Clearly a good runner I’m sure).

@@Glennvinar yes 2023. 2 degrees when started and got to 8 degrees when I dropped out. All my previous runs have been in Queensland and only once had to put on a long sleeve running shirt for a couple hours in a backyard ultra. I was in a light t-shirt and shorts (my usual outfit) with gloves because I am drenched head to toe in sweat from the 5km mark of my ultra runs, and in QLD that works. Not in cold weather. It was being wet AND cold that did it to me. Change next year is a compression long sleeve shirt to block wind and then put the t-shirt on and off to regulate temp.

@@clintondowling fair enough, good stuff mate that you’re learning from it and heading back next year. I live in the hills of mount Dandenong in Melb so very similar weather to the blue mountains and I’m acclimatised…. I run in a very light top providing next to no warmth in cold temps all the time. But I was prepared for colder conditions should things get slow !
