i found the guy in serene shores by the cave and it wasnt bernard after i cured him it was some useless guy

Turns out Bernard's location is not set in stone, instead he is garenteed to be found as the reward for beating your third battle.

All of the non leafling castaways locations are not set in stone. Instead the game will give them out in a specified order. As such Russ will be the first person you find, Dingo will be fourth and Yonny will be eighth castaway you rescue.
