This one turned out so beautiful!!! ❤️❤️ the leather lap was interesting, nice innovation 😊 it definitely looks like some sort of caramel snack once it’s all polished. It’d make a good dice for a food related character!

Thanks so much! Haha, you're totally right, it does look like a caramel candy! I can totally imagine a Gnome rogue who used to be a master confectioner but lost their business to "Big Candy". Now they spend their nights fighting off Candy Corp. goons with sharpened candy cane daggers, peppermint smoke bombs, and caramel sticky traps.😂

Wow this turned out awesome. Super resourceful making your own leather polisher too, honestly probably saved a bunch of money too haha. Great job as always! The pattern on some sides kinda reminds me of dead trees from like an arid environment.. my mind just goes to a dragonborn sorcerer haha!

Thank you! It's just nice that it worked out so well, and now I have another tool I can use when I run into my next stubborn rock, haha. I like your idea of a dragonborn sorcerer! Could lean heavy into the arid dead environment idea and go with Black Dragonborn with a focus on Necromancy! Maybe multi-class into druid, and build on the nature aspect of it too? 😁

id be interested in seeing you design your own additional edge facets , like how hadron has the star they do , im curios what you can come up with as a signature on the dice

I've done some star cut and beveled designs before, and plan on doing more fun cuts like those in the future. I have a few ideas for some interesting designs! 😊

Fun fact, marble is made from limestone through geologic metamorphosis! A few more million years and your Picasso Marble might become true marble ;) The pattern is gorgeous and the resulting die is incredible. I love those reddish brown colors and the white shades make them pop. And great job on the DIY leather lap! Even if an off-the-shelf lap were an option for your faceting rig, it probably would have cost 10x as much. I feel like the original stone was absolutely huge and so much of it was ground away in the faceting process. Do you think it was big enough to get a full (albeit much smaller) polyhedral set out of? Is that something you'd ever consider or be able to do? Also, how do you feel about alabaster? It's a super soft stone not too unlike this limestone, but a dice set made of translucent white alabaster would just look incredible!

That's super interesting! I'd love to get my hands on some marble too - I've been wanting to reach out to some of the countertop places near me to see if they have any scraps I could buy. Thanks for the kind words! I LOVE the texturing on this one, and the size and weight are just so incredibly satisfying, haha! I don't think this single stone would have been enough for a full standard set, but you're right, I did lose quite a lot during the pre-forming. I could have cut those bits off with my trim saw, but didn't think I'd end up with enough to really do anything with. I've made full sets in the past, but cutting seven dice takes seven times as long. It would also be pretty hard to film and edit, and would push a video quite a ways out. It's definitely something I want to do again in the future, but will probably be sticking mostly to just D20's for a while. I did just recently cut a unique design for a D4 that I'll be posting on my instagram soon. I totally agree! It would be awesome to cut some from Alabaster! I'll definitely keep an eye out and see if I can snag a few pieces to add to my to-be-cut list! I appreciate the suggestion! 😊

very beautiful D20. Your videos are very lovely and interesting. Do you think you'll do any other kinds of dnd dice like d4's etc? Would be interesting to see

Thanks so much! I actually just cut a new custom shaped D4 and put a few short clips up on my Instagram if you want to check it out! If people like it, then I'll consider cutting a few more. 😊 I definitely plan on cutting some of the other dice - I know a LOT of TTRPGs use 2D6, so I want to make a handful of matching pairs for those games!

@@SageAndNettle ill check out those clips. yeah as much as i like the d20s i think the variety would make things interesting, and it would be cool to see how you do things differently

Another beautiful d20 from a stone from our state! And BIG! Do you find it easier, harder, or about the same to cut a larger stone than a smaller one? I also like your idea for creating your own leather polishing pad and may do something similar with the flat lap that I just set up (finally!!). I have a 14k grit diamond paste pad, but I'd like to have ones for cerium oxide and aluminum oxide as I'm sure different ones will be best for different stones.

Thank you!! Honestly, the type of stone matters way more than the size of the cut, but smaller dice are a bit easier/quicker. Some larger facets are difficult to polish (That lepidolite gave me a lot of trouble), but this one went surprisingly well with the leather lap. That's cool you got a flat lap setup! Cerium Oxide is great for silicates and works incredibly well for quartz. The Alumina Oxide (Linde A) has been working fantastic for the softer stones. There's also Chrome Oxide if you work with Jade, Lapis, or Rhodonite. Happy to share any knowledge where I can! 😊

@@SageAndNettle Thanks! I do have rhodonite (collected in western MA) and jade that I might polish in the future, and I've never heard of chrome oxide for polishing. From just a quick search, I see that cerium or aluminum oxide is good for obsidian, which is a silicate (go figure).

Sure! I use a Grizzly Mini Bench Sandblaster along with some 120 Alumina Oxide Abrasive. It's worked wonderfully for what I've needed it for. 😊
