Taro, I did this exercise and I nearly cried. Why, oh why hasn't this way of thinking prevailed? Teaching your brain, indeed. Everything starts there. And your body gets crooked from neglect, and then it makes your brain crooked. So yes, teach your brain and thus keep your body healthy. Thank you!

How lucky I was to have found this film. According to the doctors, my back is a "catastrophe" and I have severe scoliosis. Very painful and energy-consuming, permanent. A really tough challenge with a broken right arm tendon. Painkillers hardly work at all, so I hardly use them anymore. This exercise is really great and provides relief. I am grateful to you for it

Here's is something very important I want you to know. Our culture (modernized culture, mostly Western culture) trains us to be disconnected from our bodies. Our culture trains us to view our bodies as external objects as an outside observer. Our culture trains to look to outside experts to fix us, fix our body issues but doesn't train us to connect with our own body, own sensory experience, "listen" to our body, feel our body, and learn from our inner intelligence. This is cultural influence on our beliefs influences our behaviors. Many people believe that they need more information in order to overcome their limitations and challenges. Many believe that they just haven't found the "right" information yet so keep seeking outside for their answer. Reality is that we have too much information, and we are so disconnected from our own body and experience. It's easy to view my videos as another exercise video, and approach it from that mindset, that is to approach your body like fixing mechanical parts that lie external to you. Then, you are really missing the point. This is not a conventional way of thinking in Western culture, so it's easy to let my message pass through you. But, don't worry! I am persistent and will repeat over and over and over:) I'm not here to teach you exercises to correct your body structures. I am here to help you connect with YOUR BODY, YOUR SENSORY EXPERIENCE, learn from YOUR BODY, and create a new way of movng, using yourself, being in your body! This paradigm shift is necessary for transformation, changes in your nervous system, movement patterns, quality of life because your body and mind are one! I really encourage you to keep this message in your mind as you watch my videos and practice movement!

It's easy to approach this movement lesson just like any other stretching/strengthening exercises, but try approaching it from a different perspective, and focus on connecting with YOUR BODY and learning about YOUR BODY and your own habitual patterns and explore new movement patterns so you can create new options for your body. While you go through this lesson, can you sense and feel in your body clearly about how one direction is easier and more familiar, suggesting your habitual pattern and how the other direction is less familiar, more awkward, harder, suggesting non-habitual pattern? When you can sense the difference clearly in your body, you now become aware of your habitual pattern. No need to correct your habits, but instead, you can practice moving into a new pattern so you won't be stuck in your habitual pattern all the time!

I don’t feel a “drop” when I step with my left foot (¼ inch shorter). My shoulders are also even. What in the world. 36 years old and I’m actually standing straighter than ever. Thank you so much.

@@TaroIwamoto Your words around the habit side being easier to do, helped me a bit to visualize the differences between one side versus the other. Adding the straight arms with the movement, made an emphasis. I have a left thoracic, right lumbar curve convex to the right. So the movement to the second side was more challenging. I could actually feel what seem to be some movement in my muscles around the spine, or maybe it was my disc patterns. Where I sit on my behind in the chair felt more grounded at the end of the practice, and my lung space felt less challenged, with more breath pathways. How much of a leg contraction, foot into the floor do you think one needs to do, to lift the behind off the chair or shift? Again. great content! Thanks!

I just came home from my pilates class. I have mild scoliosis my doctor said this would be no problem for me in the future but still in some days I could feel my body being uneven (without doubting his medical report of course) especially while exercising (I felt like I couldn't balance my weight properly in both sides equally if that makes sense). This video is life saving honestly it's the first time EVER I didn't overthink while doing an exercise and actually feeling like my body was following on it's own without me trying to balance it! Your explanation of the exercise was very comforting as well some instructors don't realize how much psychological factors affect the results. Also I felt a difference in my posture by the end of the video and i only did it for some minutes! Thank you thank you thank you thank you🫶🏻✨🤞🏻💞

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’m truly touched to hear how this video helped you feel more balanced and at ease in your body without needing to force or overthink. It's wonderful that you could simply follow along and let your body respond naturally-it’s a testament to how powerful gentle awareness can be. I'm so glad you felt comforted by the approach; that mind-body connection is something I value deeply. Psychological factors can have such a strong impact on how we move and feel, and it's rewarding to hear that this shift made a real difference for you. Thank you again for sharing, and I’m so pleased this practice brought you some relief and a new sense of alignment. Keep tuning in to your own experience, and remember I'm here to support you!

my core message for my teaching is this: all body parts are connected. body and mind are connected. we cannot work with our body like fixing mechanical parts because we are not a machine, and we all have unique body and how your body wants to move is unique. It only makes sense for us to learn how to connect with our own body and learn about our body and movement patterns, and learn how to move more comfortably and easily from the inside out, not from the outside in. Shoulders are connected to hips through the torso, so they all influence each other. You really cannot change your body until you fully become aware of your habitual movement patterns, and how all your body parts are connected. If you're new to my channel, I highly recommend you watch my recent videos regardless of their titles, and pay attention to the principles I'm teaching.

Thank you very much. Indeed i felt the difference for both sides. the twist in the arms bothered me and so i did this sitting on a bench. when I bend to the right, my right fingers would be pushing up lightly with my right shoulders lifted; same with the other side.

Great! Bring new awareness, and movement patterns in your daily activities, then you will start to retrain your movement patterns and nervous system!

@@harkaipihigia6138 I see. My teaching focuses on helping people connect with their body, become more aware of their body and how they move, and learn new ways of moving and being in their body that will bring more comfort, ease, confidence, authenticity into their body. we move and use our bodies habitually daily, and habitual patterns are often not efficient. You can start to become more aware of your body and your habitual patterns, and learn to move more easily, smoothly, comfortably (new patterns). All my videos are guiding you to learn about your patterns and more efficient patterns. You can watch some of my most recent videos, and practice improving quality of movement. That's all nervous system and movement retraining for the purpose of improving your functions, comfort, ease of movment in your body. My videos are random stretching/strengthening exercises. I'm intentionally guiding your attention to YOUR BODY and help you learn about YOUR BODY and improve your movement and functions. Does that help?

Hi Taro - First of all thank you for the video. Is this exercise/resetting brain connection useful in kids with adolescent scoliosis as well or just for folks with functional scoliosis?

I have started using a mouse in my left hand for office work instead of my right hand and it feels so awkward to be shifted to the left instead of the right! I think I'll start mostly using my smartphone in my left hand also and start looking up instead of down so often. I think I'll take up bird watching to to replace gaming and phone usage as passtimes
