To put it simply, they are a singer :) They used to cover song, which is called "utattemita" or "I want to sing.." and upload it to a jp platform "niconico"! ★ They usually do it alone (solo), but sometimes they do a duet with the other utaite and even made a group ♡ I'm sorry for my bad explanation hehe If you're interested, you can check the wikia or visit their twitter account or youtube channel (now, they also upload the song on the KZbin too beside on niconico)!★

Not sure if you’re still asking, but utaites are basically singers. Most utaites are independent artists/cover-artists, and generally do solo work but can collab together often, especially those within the bigger, more well-known friend groups like XYZ and their branching friends.

Utaite is singer who upload/ make cover of vocaloid(like hatsune miku etc) songs and upload them on nico nico douga(before). Most of them didnot show their face or any pérsonal info publicly but some utaite did show their face on their own live show only, some utaite like amatsuki did not cover his face anymore. I really respect their fan base for following their rules and respect for utaites privacy.
