Also most people don’t realize that a small wheel turns faster and can heat the bearings up quicker with a heavy load . Bigger wheel and tire gives you cooler bearings but it’s like you said easy to load setting lower that’s a BIG plus. Man thanks for all your hard work and thanks for the wisdom.

I'm using a 5.5 x 10 for my stuff (zero turn and 36" walk behind), works well. I use a step up receiver as mine is has 15" tires. Also I use a strong cable lock thru the tire/axle when parked as well as cable lock mowers to the trailer.

My thoughts on trailers. Check the air pressure daily, the right wheel takes more abuse, don't overload your trailer. Dovetails on the back and a sidegate up front is nice, the sidegate is good for solo if you have a walkbehind. Trailer brakes are worth their weight in gold, as is a brake controller. Channel construction for the frame is way better than angle iron, pipe is great for rails. I've had numerous trailers but I really didn't know what I wanted until after I bought my first. My first was a 6 by 12, 6 by 14, and 7 by 18.

In the UK the maximum weight unbraked is 750kg. After that a trailer needs its own braking system. Also your weather is kinder. All good factory trailers are galvanised. Great video!

If you ask the dealer for a 5 foot gate instead of 4 they can usually install it for you for a small fee and it stops the deck from getting caught.

I prefer a 40ton lowboy with detachable gooseneck for my 42" craftsmen t1200. I use an extended hood w900l kenworth with an 18spd transmission to pull it.😉👍

I traded my open 6.5x12 trailer for a smaller 5x10 enclosed trailer. I like that the equipment is secure and it fits my Stander, two push mowers, trimmers and blower, but the ramp very heavy. Maybe I should get some sort get a lift assist. What do you think Jason?

you never discussed why you don't use an enclosed trailer anymore. I'm looking for a trailer and I'm torn between open and enclosed. I'd like your opinion with pros and cons please. thank you for making the videos and sharing your knowledge.

I have used both open and enclosed. I like the security and weather protection of an enclosed but I like the easy access of my equipment that an open trailer provides. When I started my current lawn business, I didn't think it was worth the extra money to invest in an enclosed trailer

I went from enclosed to utility cut my fuel bill in half. Otherwise I would rather have enclosed personally but I’d rather not pay for it

I'm getting started in this business and buying my first trailer. The price difference between a 5x8 and a 5x10 is about $100. Is the extra size worth the extra money?

+William Gravitt I would get a 5x10 for only $100 more. It will give you more room to at least add a push mower with a zero turn.

This might be a really stupid question but what's the best way to load a zero turn on a utility trailer? Backwards or forwards?

I typically pull them on forwards and back them off backwards but you need to be careful backing quickly off the ramp. It's probably safer doing the opposite

@@lawncarelife ok that's what is was thinking! When I pull it on forward the deck scrapes pretty bad ! But when I go backwards off the ramp it scares the daylights outa me lol...I'll get the hang of it!

I ran a tilt trailer when I first started. Here’s the problem.... a tilt trailer dumps once the pin is pulled and weight is shifted to the rear. Seems like a great idea if you are only carrying one thing on your trailer. If you have multiple mowers the trailer will never tilt unless you put your heaviest one in the rear which causes trailer sway while driving. Also while trying to unload one you are dangerously dumping the one still on the trailer. Even if you only run one mower, anything else on the trailer gets dumped. These are only intended for single item hauling. The problems don’t stop there. It’s like a balancing act trying to get more than one mower on the trailer. If you load a mower the trailer is now permanently tilted back to transport position. Since the zero turn Weighs much more than a human, you can’t get the trailer back down to get anything else on it.I now use an enclosed trailer. More secure, weather proof and I carry a restroom with me. It’s great!

I'll send or text you a couple photos of our moveable chuck (chock block) system. My engineer buddy thought them up. You can adjust weight forward or back depending on load for the day. It also allows you to keep the tongue weight about 150lbs. Lastly, they all can be removed in one minute should you need a plain flat deck for any reason. They sell locking devices for most if not all lawn care equipment, you can have weed eater racks, back pack blower racks etc put on your trailer. You can also put a lock on the trailer hookup.

or move around neighborhoods of seniors where they are most quiet and qualified for community watch lol.
