I went to mater Dei and they never really explained the origin of the patch on their jerseys. Though, MD does a lot of philanthropy events with the marines (monarchs 4 marines) and I know their coaching staff likes to use some of the important lessons the marines teach young men that can be paralleled into their lives and football.
