Dr. Hazra I have to agree with you. I have analysed the styles of the top tabla players, including Pt Anindo Chatterjee, Pt Swapan Chaudhari... etc. They are each great in their own way, however Zakirji’s approach to sound production is unique. His use of bayan is a totally new element in tabla playing, bayan was never used in this way traditionally. His recent videos on Instagram (Z files) gave a lot of great insights into his style and approach. I learned a lot from that which I’m now slowly trying to incorporate into my own style.
