Great comparison. All three of these are great machines, but if I had to pick one it would be the Honda. The fact that the seats fold down is a great feature, and the engine in the Pioneer is great. The Yamaha does come in as a close se on though!

I put 3500 miles on my teryx 4 and didn't have any problems. Yah it was a little loud and little hot during summer rides but it was very durable and dependable. We rock crawled took it to the dunes jumped the help out of it and never hurt it. The Teryx is awsome.

I had a 2016 Teryx and can say that it was very comfortable for 4 passengers! I had to sell it because I purchased a 5th wheel toy hauler with a 10 foot garage, the Teryx was about 5 inches too long. the Wolverine x4 is 2 inches too long, but the Pioneer 1000-5 has 3+ inches clearance! I do love my Honda and the transmission is great but the comfort is not there for the rear passengers unless they are small in stature!

Personally, I test drove all three as they were the machines on the market my family was looking for.... We didn’t want a long Polaris crew type vehicle. We simply wanted a shorter wheelbase, nimble, 4 seater with decent storage for packing stuff.... After testing all 3 machines and pricing them out over numerous dealership, we ended up purchasing a 2018 Teryx 4. So far, the machine has been fantastic and exceeded all our expectations.... When loaded with all four passengers it’s the perfect 4 seater trail machine.... I must say as well, the heat doesn’t seem to be an issue like everyone says. Sure it’s a little loud, but it’s the same noise you hear in a ranger, just the motors between you and the passenger and not behind you.... I’ve ridden Polaris products my entire life and have had tons of heat coming up from behind me on rangers to.... The ride is good on the Teryx as well.... Sure, you won’t keep up to RZRs if that’s your thing (which I have rode plenty of), but for a family vehicle this thing is top quality.... 👍🏼

a little off topic but my 2012 Kawasaki mule diesel 998cc has been absolutely reliable and tough as I've ever owned.the fuel mileage is unreal. Kawasaki always seems to get the red headed stepchild treatment. the diesel is slightly slower at accelerating but will out pull any gas competitors.

Kind of lame to get top of the line models for Honda and Yamaha, then a base model Kawasaki... I have a 2018 Teryx4 and love it. Perfect family trail machine. Plenty of power, will climb anything, room for a cooler, and most importantly, comfortable for all day family rides. I'm other words.... Perfect for what you guys claimed this test was about

Great video thanks! I've been in all three machines and all three manufacturers make fantastic products! but if you want to take 4 adults out all day and have some room for gear hands down the Kawasaki Teryx 4 is the way to go! because all four adults will be comfortable all day no matter where they sit ,in the Honda you chew on your knees in the rear seats ,in the rear seats of Yamaha there is absolutely no foot room for anybody who has a shoe size bigger than 6!!! If the Honda is the best on gas it must be incredible because I've been out in the Kawasaki fully loaded gone 120 miles in a day and didn't even use a half tank of gas! One other thing I didn't see discussed was Heat! I definitely have put the most miles in the Kawasaki and in the hot summer that machine is very hot to ride around in!
@MassiveOverkill

The X4 can be modded for more footwell room: www.wolverineforums.com/forum/162-wolverine-x4-general-discussion/18258-2018-blue-yamaha-wolverine-x4-5.html#post222282 I'm a size 11 and find the room adequate. Heat isn't an issue at all in the X4, BUT you can get free heat in the winter by lifting up the engine cover.

Braaap Tastic you're clearly a democrat as shown by your racist comment. Hose A is clearly 100% correct in that Polaris is far better than these asian sxs's....and that's coming from a can am guy. I've demo ridden all 3 of these machines and they're vastly underpowered, ride like lumber wagons and are far overpriced for what they are. The fact that polaris has more than 50% of the utv market share and has for quite a while speaks for itself.

Every 3 tanks of gas the uni filter is washed n oiled. Its just built really cheap and nothing seems to last. Front diff pinion bearing plate broke just past warranty.(stock tires) 2500 bucks. Both front axles broke (stock tires) just past warranty. Belt belt causing clutch damage... less then 500 km. Just past warranty. Voltage regulator over charging 18volts... ruined some of the wiring... back ordered... very very very very common problem... brake calipers are known to spit out outter brake pads.... common. I like riding my sportsman 1000xp but i gotta baby it or it cost me tons of money to fix it. Im 43 ive raced sleds and mx since 1980. Im a very skilled mechanic and all about maintaining my machines. How in the world did you determine that the Teryx4 isn't the best at cargo? It's the only one that can hold that Yeti while you have a full backseat! The only way to outdo the Teryx4 with the Honda is to only carry 3 uncomfortable people or two comfortably. It would be fair to dock the Teryx4 for having a smaller motor and slower acceleration for sure.
@MassiveOverkill
@MassiveOverkill 6 жыл бұрын
It's called a soft cooler. If you need a case of beer to illegally drink with 3 of your 250 lb plus buddies I guess the Teryx wins. If you're a TYPICAL family of 4 (2 parents, 2 kids), it's (the X4) perfect. It wouldn't be hard to fabricate a tailgate basket if you really had to have that $300 Yeti cooler.
@threefortyduster
@threefortyduster 6 жыл бұрын
You make quite the number of assumptions there. Who said anything about "illegally drinking?" I do have kids, and the kids and wife like to act like we're moving in to places with the number of drinks we take when we ride, but I guess we can't let them go too crazy on Gatorade and water. I'm not the one who tested these with a Yeti cooler, the Yeti was in the video. The storage test on this specific video included firewood and a Yeti. You seem to also have an issue with the price of the Yeti...but a $20 Igloo Island Breeze from WalMart is roughly the same size and would have the same issue as the Yeti, physics doesn't lie. The middle seat on a bench seat of a UTV isn't comfortable for anyone for a whole day of riding. Thanks for assuming I'm a fat drunk with fat friends though!
@MassiveOverkill
@MassiveOverkill 6 жыл бұрын
Glad you don't fit the common demographic of partying beer drinkers. You don't need a full size cooler for your drinks, one or two soft coolers will work just fine. Even a tall water cooler used at sporting events will fit between the seats. I agree that the middle seat on a bench seat of a UTV isn't comfortable for a whole day of riding, which is why I like the X4. Never said you were fat, but the Honda/Wolverine X4 weren't made for 4 large adults (big and/or tall), they were made for a typical family of 4 (as I described above).

We really need more short wheelbase 4 seater's in the segment. I want room for my family, but still want a sporty feeling rig. My problem with the Honda is the same problem I have with almost all Honda's, they just refuse to pay money to have FOX or KYB or any reputable shock brand spec a package for their vehicles. The Teryx4 and the Wolverine base models come with KYB or Fox shocks that have, at the least, adjustable bound/rebound. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but the Pioneer costs so much more already than the competition. And, in that same thought, I always worrying about modifying Honda's. How will that pioneer work with 32" tires on it? With a CVT you can tear the clutches apart and mod them to handle bigger tires. But with a gear on gear transmission, you just have to hope they hold up. Would be cool to do a shootout again with similarly modded machines.

In addition to adding a cab heat output judging item, I think for the sound level mark, you should subdivide that item into 2 categories: Stock sound level, and then outfit each unit with identical tires or ride in soft pack and do your sound tests so tire noise isn't a main contributor (maybe do hard pack and soft pack sound tests) I can tell you that at speed, on hard pack, the loudest thing on the X4 is the tires, and customers are eventually going to replace the stock tires due to wear or even earlier based on their needs.

How does the teryx score lowest in cargo when it has the most capacity while the rear seats are in use. I shop at the big and tall store and I did not care for the wolverine. The Honda is ok on comfort but the teryx wins for me in that category. I would give the Honda more consideration if it wasn't priced so much higher than the teryx in the real world.

Really, the terex has the most bed capacity with the seats up. And while the honda has very little bed capacity with the seats up, it has an enormous amount of room with them down, and still has a tilting bed. Not to mention, honda has a bed extender for the pioneer which can give you more bed capacity with the seats folded up.

I've had to learn up on the Teryx4 as I may be doing some work on one. Many of us SxS owners do our own maintenance and repairs. If someone choosing between a Teryx4 and Wolverine X4 saw the process you had to go through to work on the CVT system or change a belt, I guarantee you not a single soul would pick the Teryx4. Removing the tunnel cover and gas tank to even change a belt?!! Having to remove BOTH primary and secondary?!?! that's simply stupid. All you shadetree mechanics, don't buy a Teryx4 if you plan on working on your machine.

A Honda with an actual gear-driven transmission will outlast any ATV with a CVT for decades down the road. It will be worth more to. I've had 4 Hondas, 3 of which are still in my garage and all 3 of those are DCT. Besides one CV boot replacement, not one has been in the shop for a failure of any kind. I've ridden in the Wyoming mountains and extensively in West Virginia. I just wouldn't trust anything else. You go ahead and replace your belt and I'll see you at the end of the trail.

Yeah I’m a Polaris and Can Am hater reason I say that is. I had a Polaris sportsman 570 and that thing blew 2 head gaskets and I also had front diff issues with the machine. It had the power but it wasn’t nearly as reliable as my 20 and 30+ year old Honda machines. I also had a brand new can am outlander 1000 not even a week after buying it, the thing blew up and if you knew me I keep my machines well maintained and like new. But for Polaris and Can Am they are the biggest piece of junk I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for the video but I do not understand why you would use one base model and that's the Kawasaki but the Yamaha and the Honda you did not use a base model you should have compared all three evenly you should have used the LE model much nicer looking for headlights instead of two nice mag wheels and bigger tires like the other two machines

I'm not just brand fan boying, but why did the Honda score better in cargo than the other two? Yeah it has the most with the seats down, but practically none with the seats up the kawai has the most while carrying more than two, as they said you can get a soft cooler in the yamaha with seats up plus you can fold one seat for more.

pjbuckmaster lets see, Honda has most HP, Dct transmission, unlocking rear differential. Whats the problem? Sounds like best machine to me out of the bunch. I have a couple RZRs so I could care less who they picked, but I will take a DCT over belt any day. One of my RZR has unlocking rear dif, its awesome, you can turn super tight, and not tear up your grass when driving around yard to load it up for a trip or just doing yard work. I unlock my rear dif when I go into town on pavement too. Its cool feature.

Pretty fair review. The X4 will do 60 with a machined sheave as well as run quieter at speed kzbin.info/www/bejne/qILFZ6uEacilpbs. I think you should comment on cab heat output as the X4 has none, the Honda used to have heat issues but supposedly has been resolved, while I don't think the Kawasaki's heat issue as been resolved yet.

The kawi is hands down the better machine seats are good for kids to adults a 45 qt cooler will fit in bed and lower torq is better the machine can have upgraded big bore programmer and clutch kit for 2grand it comes with beat shocks besides Honda but if you ever sat in a jump seat Honda you'll never own it....the Yamaha feels like it has no power and steering is heavy.....if they would have built seat rails with a quick release it would be great.

A Wolverine X2/X4 will flat out smoke a Teryx modded or stock. Plenty of space between the rear seats and a large center console for storage unlike the Teryx. Teryx rides rougher than the X2/X4, is hot as hell, loud, and vibrates like a mother.
@jshapiro34

@@MassiveOverkill don't know what kawi you rode in or owned but mine didn't shake at all wasn't that hot and the ride was pretty comfortable but I ran soft up front hard to the rear so it would slide in the turns. Speed isn't everything I was after torq because after tires and wheels and 4 people your looking for a machine that gets up to the 25 to 45 mph range fast and holds it on tight trails and that's where the kawi did better than Honda and Yamaha

@@MassiveOverkill I've owned a rhino a 570 a teryx and now a artic cat for side x sides had zero issues with my teryx for 6900 miles and 3 years no heating issues besides 1 leg got a little hotter but nothing and I mean nothing compared to a yz450 or a 2 stroke baffle near ur shin kinda heat and rzr 570 over the bed got hotter actually when we compared them.....we actually had to put a makeshift steel grate to give cooler room to breath so it didn't melt all our ice in 4 hours.... actually melted the cleat to a Ozark trail cooler. So not sure what you have driven or owned but you sound like a Yamaha fan boy because having owned a rhino vs these newer machines and a friend still owns a 800 rzr these all pull better faster stronger and more torq and sorry but 4 people in a teryx vs a x4 the ride is way better because they have same seat as driver, leg room is there it seats stadium style like my Xterra so helmets don't clack sight line is not bad and the heat is to the driver not my cooler which is the most important thing to me because machine is some what warm in the snow without a 500$ heater.....the rhino was a dog could climb and carry stuff but I don't think even down hill it ever saw 60 might been lucky to see 50 The rzr was great till about 45 then 27s came and it was a dog after 35 ate belts easy fix tho and 50 inches with weight made it easy to flip. The teryx is stock fox shocks led lights and 27s pull some plastics and 400$ you reroute the ECU it will do 68mph it will run up anything hills to mountains may not be 50mph but it will get up it with 4 200lb adults and a yeti 45. And it always always pulled trails around 40mph and I never cracked my floorboard on rock kick ups like the rhino and rzr did.

@@jshapiro34 6900 miles, that's cute. I'm about to hit 11K in that same time span. Like I said, the majority of Teryx owners admit to the heat, sound, and ride issues and anyone here can Google it and see you're bias. Got news for ya. The X4 rear passengers get the same seat as the driver as well. More news for ya, X4 has stadium rear seating too. All anyone has to do is do a simple Google search and they'll see that what I'm saying is fact, and that what you're saying is not.
