Many you have asked why we got rid of our Polaris side by side and switched over to Honda. In this video, I detail the issues we had and why we made the decision to switch to Honda. I am not sponsored by either but I thought it would be helpful to share my experience.

Cat Jack ... I need a 6 seat crew model for my farm . i have 5 kids. Im thinking about saving a few bucks and getting the yanmar. It's the same as the yamaha viking with tons of accessories. I need it for hunting fishing and farming. Im not interested in big power i just want dependability any thoughts?

@catjackoff-road855 5 жыл бұрын
Derek Bedford ya really can’t go wrong with a Yamaha they are super reliable right up there with Honda the new wolverines got the 850 engine in them of ya wanted the extra power but if that’s no issue the Viking is great I was in a six seater touring the mountians in Newfoundland it was a great unit. I had 2 Polaris sportsman’s and they were real troublesome. Have a can am xmr at the moment seems to be ok so far. I ride a lot of mud so I went with a mud bike. I’m not Familiar with yanmar but if they are anything like the yamaha you should be ok.Good luck with your choice!

JAKE3914 Currently have a 13’ Honda Recon ES, and I work the crap out of it almost every day hauling firewood out of the woods. Estimated to have somewhere around 35,000 miles on it. Never had a problem! Gone through 3 sets of tires, if that’s any indication of how hard it’s ridden. Recently was given a used Yamaha Rhino 700 with 5,000 miles on it, and it hasn’t been very reliable. Taken the engine case apart twice to replace the stator coil (got a bad one the first time), which includes removing the water pump. Overheats when I load it down with wood, and run down the road (the same thing I’ve done forever with the Recon). Blows out rear cv joints so often I just gave up, so they click like crazy. Just waiting for one to come apart completely to replace them. Really need to upgrade to a Honda Pioneer!

I was very happy when I got rid of my Polaris and went to a Honda 3 years and 1700 miles without an issue. Biggest complaints about the Polaris was how poorly it was built and the complete lack of support from the factory about common known issues. These are also my biggest thumbs up to Honda. The Honda is well built and the factory is very proactive in addressing every possible issue.

But hey I know plenty of people that just use there’s to go to the mail box once a week that swear by them.

@@ROTAXD So, what EXACTLY is the job for Polaris? Seriously, "Wrong job BRAH!" sounds like a crap excuse. Are you saying the Polaris Rangers are NOT a daily use UTV? Are they some sort of 4 wheeled primadonnas that you only get to take out on the weekends after spending all week getting them ready? Is Polaris the hot cheerleader that you take out to lunch all week, buy her a bunch of jewelry, carry her books just for the chance of having some fun on the weekend? It's a dam machine, It moves you from point A to point B. If it continuously breaks doing that...IT IS JUNK!
@ROTAXD
@ROTAXD 5 жыл бұрын
Rick May & morehp1, Rick May the job of a ranger ? Rangers are meant for mostly yard work, hunting, some trail riding. Again, you want a work machine, find a polaris brutus. Morehp, we do far more than drive down to get the mail once weekly and we’ve been fine. In fzct, we’ve had far better luck with it it than our friends who run yamahas & our unfortunate other friends that ride a kymco-cat.

I’ve always been a Honda fan and think they make the best machine on the market for reliably. I don’t think the side by sides are as good as the 4 wheelers, but if they are half as good that would still be pretty amazing. I will always buy polaris for now on though because I’m addicted to speed and they are so much dang fun. Good luck with it and I’m sure it will give you many trouble free years of service.

Thanks. Great video. We are steering away from a Polaris as well due to some issues we had with ours in the mountains of NC. I did want to share one thing with you. We had a couple of miles of private road with several families depending on it being open (medical reasons, etc). I did the plowing and was always banging up the blade on protruding rocks and the occasional stump. It took me two years to figure out that if I unbolted the replaceable bottom part of the blade and inserted about 3" of thick stall mat between the replaceable bottom and the plow itself, I could drop the plow down and ride with the stall mat doing the snow removal, not the metal blade. Looks like you have a very nice concrete driveway and that might not help you much, but if you do any gravel road plowing... But again, thanks. We'll go look at Honda now. It's too hot here to sit on that Polaris heat machine all summer.

I have a Pioneer 500, I call it golfy. It's a workhorse around here. I was out climbing the ravines last night in the snow, the paddle shift is necessary for holding gears, otherwise it hunts too much. So this morning I got up to 6-7" of heavy snow and since it is going to get nasty cold this week, I was pushing the snow banks back with my Kubota loader. I got it stuck! I had to walk to the other end of the property to retrieve golfy, after hooking up a chain, a couple of tugs with golfy and the tractor was free. I'm always amazed at how strong the Pioneer 500 is, whether joy riding up and down the ravines or saving the day.

Polaris SxS are the only ones I've ever seen, that have had welds break. Even on ones just used around the farm rather than out jumping on the trails. Pioneer 1000 has been a great asset on my property, hauling firewood, hay, gravel from my creekbed, fence posts, just about aevery task. Havent put a snowplow on it yet, dont get a lot in SE Mo, but its in the plans for the future.

Well you know what they say about Honda... its a Honda! Thrashed my 2019 TRX420FM1 with just over 100km into a ditch last weekend going about 40, destroyed my helmet, and probably would have destroyed myself if I wasn't wearing it, but the quad held up, just had a bent front bumper. Love my hondas!

Thanks Troy. Enjoy your side by side. Their a nice product I've yet to own one but I know Honda makes a mean machine. My brother bought a Pioneer in 2016. He Has had good service with it too. I think Honda waits to come out with these ATVs to see the demand of what they sell. And when they do come out with the latest and greatest they do it right the first time. No time for trial and error but get it right, right from the start. That's my opinion. If I ever do get a side by side it'll definitely be a Honda. Thanks for your input.

First off, I like your channel. I’ve definitely learned some things from you and your experiences. Did you go with power steering on your Honda Pioneer? How is it holding up? I’ve had a couple of Honda ATVs and you can’t kill them. I’m looking at SxS now for my farm. I’m in the Southern Appalachians and kind of have the same requirements as you - feed and firewood hauler with some other light duty. Thanks for posting your content.

It has been flawless so far. I will probably do a follow up video soon since it has been a year now. I did get the power steering. Nice, but not a requirement.
@claytonwhitman2611
@claytonwhitman2611 2 жыл бұрын
@@RedToolHouse You are correct, the power steering is not a requirement. I bought the absolute base model. I will be adding a power steering kit to it. Power steering helps if you do a lot of rough terrain driving, with the bumps. It also helps a LOT with the mud driving when you are in 4WD, especially with the dif lock engaged. When I am in the deep mud and dif lock, the steering wants to go straight. Once you muscle it to turn, it gets to about half way to a maximum turn, and then it wants to go to full maximum turn. So, for a lot of rough or mud driving, GET THE POWER STEERING.

moultonditcher 1) the 800 was one of Polaris’ worst motors. 2) I’ve had polaris in my stable as well as can am & honda. Never had any oe wiring issues with the polaris. As for clutch noise, the only time I’ve seen much noise out of popo clutches is when they’re completely neglected or people are in the habit of tooling around @ 10 mph in high range.

@@gwood701 Went out today and rode a Yamaha Viking 700, was nice, and went and drove the Honda Pioneer 1000, I'll have to say the Honda was much nicer, much more low end torque and power, what i'm looking for, not as easy to get to the engine and do maintenance, and close to $3,000.00 more, drove a 2019 Polaris 1000 Ranger, hard to shift, seats were hard as a rock, just wasn't impressed at all, did not compare to the Honda or Yamaha so I'll have to sleep on it, but I think i'm probably going to go with the Honda, a shame the Viking doesn't have a 1000, tired of waiting for one, my luck I'll get the Honda and they will this fall.

Great informative video. Thank you. I like you had heard so much about the Polaris but it seemed like so many people after doing my research had issues. Especially the belt drive transmission. A mechanic who I trust a lot recommended the Honda or Kubota. Like you I have a 2002 Foreman Rubicon that is now 22 years old and still bullet proof. That and you helped me make my decision. My new Pioneer 1000 will be here in a month! 😀
