JAKE3914 Currently have a 13’ Honda Recon ES, and I work the crap out of it almost every day hauling firewood out of the woods. Estimated to have somewhere around 35,000 miles on it. Never had a problem! Gone through 3 sets of tires, if that’s any indication of how hard it’s ridden. Recently was given a used Yamaha Rhino 700 with 5,000 miles on it, and it hasn’t been very reliable. Taken the engine case apart twice to replace the stator coil (got a bad one the first time), which includes removing the water pump. Overheats when I load it down with wood, and run down the road (the same thing I’ve done forever with the Recon). Blows out rear cv joints so often I just gave up, so they click like crazy. Just waiting for one to come apart completely to replace them. Really need to upgrade to a Honda Pioneer!

I also drive Honda cars, and a large array of our pumps and machines I use on my farm, all the honda products are a dream that last forever... All other brands just have quirks over time, I wish other companies had such dedicated as Honda.

I was very happy when I got rid of my Polaris and went to a Honda 3 years and 1700 miles without an issue. Biggest complaints about the Polaris was how poorly it was built and the complete lack of support from the factory about common known issues. These are also my biggest thumbs up to Honda. The Honda is well built and the factory is very proactive in addressing every possible issue.

I have owned several Polaris rangers and have had minor issues.Along with many of my friends owning them. I just purchased a 2019 camo ranger totally outfitted and it is a beast. My friend has a honda side by side and he loves his machine. I think they are both awesome machines. As everyone knows there always seems to be a machine in every group that is a pain in the rear. I am lucky i have an awesome dealer in our area. I hope your honda does great.

The electronics are crap and they are at the lowest possible spot to get water and debris in them. Front diffs bust, reverse chains bust fuel gauges quit hell I can't think of anything on them that is reliable.

I have a Pioneer 500, I call it golfy. It's a workhorse around here. I was out climbing the ravines last night in the snow, the paddle shift is necessary for holding gears, otherwise it hunts too much. So this morning I got up to 6-7" of heavy snow and since it is going to get nasty cold this week, I was pushing the snow banks back with my Kubota loader. I got it stuck! I had to walk to the other end of the property to retrieve golfy, after hooking up a chain, a couple of tugs with golfy and the tractor was free. I'm always amazed at how strong the Pioneer 500 is, whether joy riding up and down the ravines or saving the day.

But hey I know plenty of people that just use there’s to go to the mail box once a week that swear by them.

@@ROTAXD So, what EXACTLY is the job for Polaris? Seriously, "Wrong job BRAH!" sounds like a crap excuse. Are you saying the Polaris Rangers are NOT a daily use UTV? Are they some sort of 4 wheeled primadonnas that you only get to take out on the weekends after spending all week getting them ready? Is Polaris the hot cheerleader that you take out to lunch all week, buy her a bunch of jewelry, carry her books just for the chance of having some fun on the weekend? It's a dam machine, It moves you from point A to point B. If it continuously breaks doing that...IT IS JUNK!

Rick May & morehp1, Rick May the job of a ranger ? Rangers are meant for mostly yard work, hunting, some trail riding. Again, you want a work machine, find a polaris brutus. Morehp, we do far more than drive down to get the mail once weekly and we’ve been fine. In fzct, we’ve had far better luck with it it than our friends who run yamahas & our unfortunate other friends that ride a kymco-cat.

Derek Bedford ya really can’t go wrong with a Yamaha they are super reliable right up there with Honda the new wolverines got the 850 engine in them of ya wanted the extra power but if that’s no issue the Viking is great I was in a six seater touring the mountians in Newfoundland it was a great unit. I had 2 Polaris sportsman’s and they were real troublesome. Have a can am xmr at the moment seems to be ok so far. I ride a lot of mud so I went with a mud bike. I’m not Familiar with yanmar but if they are anything like the yamaha you should be ok.Good luck with your choice!

Thanks. Great video. We are steering away from a Polaris as well due to some issues we had with ours in the mountains of NC. I did want to share one thing with you. We had a couple of miles of private road with several families depending on it being open (medical reasons, etc). I did the plowing and was always banging up the blade on protruding rocks and the occasional stump. It took me two years to figure out that if I unbolted the replaceable bottom part of the blade and inserted about 3" of thick stall mat between the replaceable bottom and the plow itself, I could drop the plow down and ride with the stall mat doing the snow removal, not the metal blade. Looks like you have a very nice concrete driveway and that might not help you much, but if you do any gravel road plowing... But again, thanks. We'll go look at Honda now. It's too hot here to sit on that Polaris heat machine all summer.

So when I decided to get a new workhorse I bought my ranger and all I gotta say is polaris built a plastic turd. The olny thing realiable is the motors. Rivets are already popping outta the plastics and just had to take it to the shop for 4 weeks for a damn electrical problem. Battery kept going dead and couldn’t use my machine to work it like it should be worked. I literally had to go to the dealer and get a new quad because my farm work was getting way way behind bought me a canam outlander 650 and I love it! going to hopefully trade my pos ranger in next year for a real side by side like a canam defender or Honda Pioneer.

Nice Review! I concur overall, especially if I were buying new today. However, Honda side by sides weren’t around in 06, so I bought the Polaris. And to this day, I have never had any of the issues mentioned here. I’ve had it all over Baja in some of the worst conditions imaginable and after 12 years, 14,000 miles, 10,000 hours I put a new top end in the motor. I do service, & maintenance regularly, and replace the belt yearly just to be on the safe side. I recently picked up another one pretty much the same as the other for 3K and freshened it up for about another thousand so now I have two. Retired now and not as aggressive as I used to be, these two more than serve my needs here on the beaches and low deserts around San Felipe, Baja, plus I have an “extra” for when company comes.

I’ve owned two polaris rzr sxs’s. Totaled one out and thank goodness I didn’t buy from your dealer because the roll bar saved my life! Second one is so good so far. I’ve always been a Honda fan and think they make the best machine on the market for reliably. I don’t think the side by sides are as good as the 4 wheelers, but if they are half as good that would still be pretty amazing. I will always buy polaris for now on though because I’m addicted to speed and they are so much dang fun. Good luck with it and I’m sure it will give you many trouble free years of service.

I know you may think the new belt drive is odd. I have a 65 model Melroe Bobcat that is belt drive just like a side by side. If a dump truck dumps out a load of dirt, I can put the bucket down on the original ground and drive through the pile of dirt. A lot of tractors won't do that.

Back in 2003, I bought a brand new Honda Foreman after owning a Recon. Also after riding my cousins Big Red 3 wheeler on their farm. A little while later my brother bought a big Polaris atv. He left his atv at my house so I was able to drive it. The Polaris instantly had some issues. He ended up trading his Polaris for a motorcycle and over 17 years later I still have my 2003 Honda Foreman. I use it to plow, pull carts, skid logs and just to ride. I have skidded a lot of logs with it. I would never give it away or buy another brand after owning it. I wish I would have bought two back in 2003.

greg b cv belts do not stretch. Unless you’re trying to do a job in high range that should have been done in low, they also wear very well. Our Polaris General only has about 1000mi on it (one season) and zero issues. Our daughters Sportsmen have 2500 and 3700 miles on them. Both original belts. No slipping. My 09 Outlander 800 has 3400 miles on it and has been used for plowing every year since 2010. Original belt. No slipping.

Thanks Troy. Enjoy your side by side. Their a nice product I've yet to own one but I know Honda makes a mean machine. My brother bought a Pioneer in 2016. He Has had good service with it too. I think Honda waits to come out with these ATVs to see the demand of what they sell. And when they do come out with the latest and greatest they do it right the first time. No time for trial and error but get it right, right from the start. That's my opinion. If I ever do get a side by side it'll definitely be a Honda. Thanks for your input.

@@InHotAz I'm a little skeptical. My guess is he treated it like a submarine and flooded the motor. That would be user abuse. Not Honda's fault. To be honest the only issue is the rear diff which clunks sometimes and the doors on the 700 rattle. Well known minor issues which are corrected by using 80W-140 in the rear end and door bumper shims. The rubber door stoppers aren't long enough.
