Yay! I've been patiently waiting for the next episode of this trip. Watched all your videos so far since researching my Polaris General build I'm doing. Can't wait to follow your lead on some of the things I've got planned.

Love this family, just think of all the memories these kids will have with their parents. Love the gas station stop "Ouch" $145 fuel up.

Thanks Ron. Yeah the fuel costs on this trip hurt 😣 My fondest memories as a kid were family vacations… they have a lot of fun.

Awesome video! Looks like some good family fun. We haven't done overlanding, we usually just tent camp or rent a cabin, but this would be a great family adventure. Thanks for sharing!
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
You bet! Thanks for watching. We do the cabin rental or camp and ride too but the overlanding has really been an adventure especially with two kids! We’ll have more up on this adventure soon! 🙏🏼

Thanks!! We'll have the rest of the trip up in a couple weeks. Been busy with some other things so video editing has been on pause.

Your videos are awesome! You have inspired us to set up our next General ( on order) for overlanding. We were wondering what's the brand of the tent you are using this year?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
This is a Luxe tent. 8 person tipi. It worked well on this trip

What, no Thomas Guide so you could see what 100 block you were on? BTW, have you preferred Garmin over Ride Command for your traveling?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
Lol. It’s a little more remote than we expected - which was great. On our Black Hills trip the Garmin Tread was much more useful. On this Idaho Trip we almost solely used the Ride Command. I think it just matters how the maps are in a certain area. Anytime we are in a National Forest though we always grab the paper MVUMs.

One of my favorite places to ride is Taylor park Colorado, you and your family would love it there. I try to go every year if you want any info let me kmow

Very cool! We will take a look. We've been to CO many times but haven't rode out there yet. Thanks!

In your travels, have you had any belt issues. Just got my xp4. Never owned a polaris b4. Thanks for any info you have. Love you're videos. From east central Kansas.
@TheNorthwoodsFamily Жыл бұрын
Thanks!! Glad you like them! Only belt problem was I put a flat spot on our belt once when we get stuck trying to get out. Wasn’t a catastrophic failure - ran fine the rest of the weekend. It showed up a month later as a cylinder misfire fault. Had to shut down the machine to reset. I think I have a video on it somewhere. The belt on our Ranger went ten years and when I finally replaced it, there was nothing wrong with it. It was still in great shape. I do carry a spare belt and tools to replace it on our trips, because if it went we’d obviously be dead in the water. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWjSeaeBbKt6Z9E

I have a new general XP 4. I was wondering how far you go on a tank of fuel . Haven't had my long enough to find out short trips . Great trips and videos. Thank you Richard
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
I figure 12-15 mpg. The way we ride, I feel comfortable saying 120 miles on a topped off tank, about 10 gal. We could probably get up to 150 but I wouldn't want to push it that far.
@richardnewman40422 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the fuel milage info. I've been busy also. Your family has great videos and I want to thank you for the insight and the help on where to go

We'd like to know if there's any day rides that we could take in the salt tooth mountains we have a motor home and would like to park it and take off from a campground do you have any ideas let me know and where can I get my maps. Thank you very much love your videos and we're talking about going to South Dakota next year
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. You could absolutely do day rides. We'll feature one coming up in the next video or two west of Stanley. I would suggest Stanley as a place to launch from, or the Lowman Ranger District in Boise National Forest. We didn't spend a lot of time there, but it looked like there were plenty of good trails. Check out the USFS Motor Vehicle use maps for some of the Ranger Districts there - don't let the lack of 65" UTV trails fool you, any of the roads that show up as black/white dashes we found to be pretty legit UTV trails. Glad you like the videos! Let us know if you have any more questions!

How well does the rack hold that larger spare tire. The manufacturer says the spare tire mount is only rated for a 40lb wheel.
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
Very well actually. The hinges are really solid. To the point we had the rear door jar open a couple times on the trail (the one thing I’d say is the spring loaded latch popped open a couple times so we use a clevis pin or padlock now where you can lock the gate), and it held up fine with the gate swinging open for several minutes on a rough trail. That said, tipping the bed back with the tire on probably isn’t a good idea. I’ve done it a couple times, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Awesome thanks. Super jealous of your build!

Are you still running the 28" tires or have you gone bigger?

Fiskars axe ? How ya like it ?
@TheNorthwoodsFamily2 жыл бұрын
Yep. I have a bunch of their tools and they all work well and hold up pretty good. This is their splitting hatchet, nice for camping. I really like their splitting axe too.
