I know this is an older video but maybe someone will see this and help me. blender will NOT let me separate anything. I went to UV split selection with faces selected- won't do it. With edges selected- won't do it. With vertex selected- won't do it. I've even tried on non-overlapping areas thinking maybe that was the problem, but I simply can't separate *anything*. Is there something I'm missing? EDIT: Figured it out, freaking proportional editing was on. So if you find this tutorial not working, make sure proportional editing is off. (Proportional editing and I are frenemies at best.)

@@grabbitt You say at the end of the video "smart UV projection is more for texture paintings but there are ways of tidying it up and organizing it which i'll talk about it alter episodes." For myself, I found this episode very insightful ( I didn't even know that you COULD move UB nodes around), but I am dealing with a mesh that have so many overlaps that its time-prohibitive to clean it up manually. Was hoping there was a... for lack of a better term, a "making better/cleaner UV maps' video.
