I had a question that pi to pistar transition is seen in acetone too but the affected transition id of n to pi star only or both the transition pi to pi star and n to pi star are affected?
@rasayan_academy2 жыл бұрын
In acetone or any other species having a lone pair, the n -> π* transition is seen mostly.

I didn't understand,both g.s and e.s has π and π* orbitals,but you're calling π as ground state and π* as excited state.why??
@rasayan_academy4 жыл бұрын
Hello sandip, we are talking about electronic transition, so when the electron is in ground state,it's in pi orbital, when it is excited, it goes to pi *. Now the discussion is based on how polar solvents are affecting the energy levels.
