hi! my name is savannah, i'm from canada, and I just recently graduated from uwc costa rica as class 2020. i have a lot more uwc content already on my channel, and more is to come. i'm attending minerva schools at kgi this coming fall, so there will be loads of content about that coming too. minerva is a 4 year accredited university program that is very new and unconventional. it's essentially a travel university with an incredibly diverse student body (kind of like uwc). the first year is spent studying in san francisco, and every following semester in another big city around the world (seoul, hyderabad, berlin, buenos aires, london, and taipei) totalling to 7 different countries.

@@clauortiz482 thank you! i would say to just never stop thinking about your application. really study yourself-what makes you you and how that’s a good thing. i always viewed myself like a movie character, so it was easier for me to figure out which parts of my life were the most impactful and that i could write about creatively :) i wish you the best if you decide to apply!

You put more emphasis on not being picky about which college you want to go to but the committee asks you to shortlist 5 colleges and give reason for the same. What kind of reasons will you suggest to people who are applying at UWC? BTW loved your suggestions :))

@@lanabanana3982 I haven't actually because I was worried about the corona virus situation and I was afraid they might send us back home. But it was just my first year to apply and from what I've heard they don't usually take younger people (in my country, I don't know about others, you're in 9th or 10th grade when applying and you typically do IB in 11th and 12th). The person I knew also only applied once so I decided to try next year. Good luck to you 💕

This is honestly the idk-th time that I have watched this like it's so beneficial!! I applied last year and got rejected but also had an amazing year and grown so much, and I think I am actually more ready now. I hope the applications actually open and the coronavirus situation doesn't stand in the way. I have a question though, in my app, there was actually a question asking how will UWC help you achieve your dreams and ambitions ( the Syrian NC), I am really interested in knowing your point of view of a good answer to this :))) (I am only asking for your idea of it not like an actual answer bc I genuinely know what UWC will help me with but more perspectives will really help). that's amazing!! 🥰🥰 maybe instead of focusing on a specific career path, think about what you want your impact to be, and what makes you happy? for example, if you know that no matter your career choice you want to help people, or make people smile, explore the world etc.. talk about how the connections you make and the people you meet will help you. or maybe how going in with an open mind will help to find a direction. because you don't know where life will take you, but you're open to the possibilities. i hope that helps!!

I only knew abt UWC in June and where I live really takes time and effort to obtain opportunities. mine was different, but i think it depends on the national committee and chance. my guess is that they change the application every few yrs and there may be minor tweaks every yr. glad i can help:))

np 😊 i couldn't tell you all the benefits of uwccr over other uwcs because i haven't attended them. that being said, i think because uwccr is in a town there is more cultural immersion. it's also currently the only one in latin america and the only bilingual uwc. the biodiversity in costa rica is incredible, so if you like biology, it's a great choice! it was not on the top of my list, but i'm super happy i was sent there, and i wouldn't change it for the world. hope that helps!!

If they ask us which college we want to go to, what should we say exactly? I mean, you stated before that we shouldn’t be picky and have an open mind, but I still think that if we say “I don’t mind as long as I have a good time” will seem like you don’t have a clue or that you’re not good at stating your own opinion and decisions. you could say something along the lines of "i would love to attend __, __, or __, but ultimately i know that i would be grateful to be given the opportunity to attend any uwc and would make the most of wherever i end up". obviously don't use that word for word, but that's the general idea. and im glad i could be of help 😊😊

Applying through a national committee allows you to get a scholarship but globally you can't get a scholarship but also your acceptance rate is higher

Hahahaha oh my god. I’m currently in the same situation right now, (in a way). I was gonna apply to a uwc that had its deadline on January 2022 but apparently when i contacted them, checking my eligibility, I wasn’t eligible ;( Later, when I checked the uwc in the country I have my passport in. The application for that uwc was due in a week 😅😅😅 I had to make everything up last minute and I thought I was doomed. However three days before the deadline, for whatever reason they did push the deadline back by two weeks. So I’m saved 😨😨😨🤩🤩🤩

It probably just depended on the National Committee that she applied to as to what ages they were open to.

back when i applied my national committee recommended that you were aged 16 to 18, but it was not mandatory! i knew my chances were low because i was under the prefered age bracket, but i still applied 🙃

i don't think that's a acurate description of the student body. most people are on scholarships. it varies per school, but uwccr was about 70% i believe. and a lot of people receive full scholarships. i think they try their best to represent a variety of people from different economical backgrounds. do research before you comment such assumptions
