J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, loved the Welsh language (Cymraeg). He wrote that it was the senior language of Britain and that it was beautiful. In fact, Tolkien's own invented Elvish language of Sindarin in The Lord of the Rings was, to some degree degree, intentionally similar to Welsh.
