My first hike in Uwharrie National Forest! I can’t believe I haven’t come here yet but this trip will certainly be the first of many. I ended up splitting the 12 mile Dutchman’s Creek loop into a quick overnight trip… had some hot temperatures but beautiful scenery!

Great video! Excellent job with the editing. No drone on this trip? Looks like a great place to hike. I think I saw the Altra Olympus 3 trail runners? If so, how they working for you? I have those and they work great for me. ✌️

Thanks! The drone did come along and I got a few shots with it but the heat sucked the creative juices right out of me. I really like the cushion of the Olympus 3.0's but I haven't managed to have a trip without getting matching blisters on the inside of my heels. Need to figure out a remedy...might try liner socks next time. Still not enough for me to stop wearing them....LOVE them compared to boots.

How far away is the Dutchman Creek loop from the 109 trailhead?? And once you reach Dutchman Creek trailhead how many miles is the loop???
@SideTrailAdventures
@SideTrailAdventures Жыл бұрын
It looks like the loop is about 3.3 miles from the 109 TH. The full figure 8 loop is just under 19 miles. I used Gaia to calculate the distances if you want to see what route looks best for you. Thanks for watching!

What is the dirty water bag you are using? Does it have a hose you can hook to the sawyer to gravity filter?

I use the CNOC Vecto 2L bag. It's a solid product. It's a stand alone bag, but they make several versions now that will hook up to just about any filter out there. Thanks for watching!

There's nothing quite like an outdoor trip to calibrate your mental compass. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!

Your experience in the Uwharries was very similar to mine. Way too hot, little water. I believe the puddle you filtered your water at was where I spent my first night. A severe thunderstorm hit my camp that night, so needless to say, I had plenty of water the next day. I hope to make another trip there in cooler weather.

It's not often that you can be happy about rain on a hiking trip! We're getting into my favorite season to be out there so I'm also eyeing a trip to watch the leaves change. Thanks for watching!

Done this loop a couple of months ago and it's a bear when you are out of shape, but it sure is gorgeous.

Gorgeous for sure but some of those hills are no joke! I kept thinking to myself "anyone heard of a switchback when they were making this trail?" Still a great section....thanks for watching!

Looks like a great place to explore in. Was the water low due to not having rain or something? I recently went on a trip and there was low water in certain places. Nice job filming. Carrying weight and heat make it challenging to hike in.

Yeah, from what I can tell, the creeks would normally have water in them but because of the lack of rain, just ran dry. Thanks for watching!

@@SideTrailAdventures I'm two years late to the party, but given your description of the heat and when you posted, I'm willing to bet this hike was mid-September of 2019. Hot and dry was an accurate description that year, but in case someone sees this in the future, I live near this trail and there are quite a few creeks around here that dry up in late summer and usually take a few months to get started again.

@@connslvr yes indeed, it was September of 2019. I have since learned about the season nature of the creeks. There were still some but just because there's a little blue line on the map doesn't mean that there's water in that creek bed. A planning factor for sure! Thanks for watching!

@@SideTrailAdventures Thanks for posting it. I found it by searching the trail name. My 4 year old wants to go "hiking and camping" so bad he can taste it. I got good info and think this is probably where I'll take him (and bring way too much gear with us).

Hot beer in front of a hot fire. You’re a trooper. I couldn’t do that
@SideTrailAdventures
@SideTrailAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
I don't remember exactly how much the pack was that trip...the beer probably and extra water probably didn't help....maybe around 30-35 pounds if I had to make an educated guess. The beer was a small comfort plus I didn't want to carry them out. The fire was pure desperation...the bugs were about to carry me away. Thanks for watching!
