The thing about that interception was, the Cougars could have totally iced the game with a FG, but they wanted to really stick it to the Huskies, so they persuaded Coach Sweeney to go for the TD instead of kicking the FG. That was a 4th down and 1 yard play, and in those days, wins by the Cougars over the Huskies were few and far between. Burleson intercepted the pass and ran it back for the TD, and the Cougars went 3 and out on the next series. When the Huskies got the ball back, with 1:58 to play, a long throw by Warren Moon got tipped by a Cougar defender into the hands of Spider Gaines, and he raced into the end zone with the game-winning TD.

I was a student at UW in 1975, Nobody really knew who this new coach was. I mean, where was Kent St.? The Cougar game was the biggest deal on campus and in Seattle in November. Don James made believers of us all that season.
