😂😂😂when my son was 4, I found him playing with his birthday gift of a pirate ship toy. He is a thanksgiving week baby so we decorated for Xmas right after his bday . I find the pirates have kidnapped the holy family & they are walking the plank 😂 I also knew an elderly priest who made a chocolate nativity set each year for a fancy fundraiser (I worked at a posh Jesuit uni), I never had the nerve to ask if anyone ever ate the chocolate baby Jesus.

Oh young persons, be aware that many many many nativity set Jesuses have to be replaced (we had a peanut stand in), it is very common that he does get broken. If it happens, don’t be too upset, the replacement can become a new tradition. Besides, if you believe, you know Jesus forgives much faster than mothers do 😂

I’m Mexican American- in Mexico we put a shoe out for the Dia de Los Tres Reyes (the wiseman day). It’s after Christmas, in January- and represents when the wise men arrived bearing gifts for baby Jesus. So, kids put out their shoe and the wisemen come and leave a little gift. ♥️ Oh my goodness… just when I thought I couldn’t love German Boyfriend more, we see his sweet crafty side and how he takes the spirit of Christmas so seriously. It actually made me tear up, as it reminded me of my childhood with the lighting of the candles during advent. Happy Holidays, you two!!!

So much fun!! I'm wildly impressed with the nativity! For cookie dough: refrigerate it before trying the moulds. Cold dough sticks less, retains its shape more. Happy Holidays, everyone! ❄️

I would’ve added a little more flour to the dough. Being too sticky, perhaps the egg was too big, the butter amount wasn’t weighed/ measured exactly or the flour already held a bit of moisture. Either of those 3 could make the dough thin and sticky. I have to adjust recipes just a little, every time I bake. Don’t give up, try again, you’ll soon get a feel for it.

Very very sweet. I love the Nativity. I also love to hear German boyfriend speak. My Mutti was born in Berlin in 1930. WWII bride. Her twin sister is still alive and living in Berlin. In 2019 I made my first trip to Germany and met 2 cousins. We are to this day still in contact with each other. I hope that maybe in a few years I can go back but during the Christmas season. I spent hours in the Kathe Wohlfahrt store in Rotenburg. Pure heaven. Now each year I so enjoy all the beautiful things I bought. Merry Christmas to you both.

In the Netherlands the cookie is called speculaas, a little easier to pronounce. St Nicolas ('Sinterklaas') is (mainly) a children's celebration here. They get presents that supposedly are brought in through the chimney by Nicolas's helpers. The saint is said to travel the roofs on his grey (mould) horse. Since that's hard to believe only young children are true believers, but many older, including adults fake to be believers to get gifts too😁.

Merry Christmas to you both. For the cookie form if you put a heavy coating of flour mixed with powdered sugar in the mold first and then add the dough, then the cookies should release from the form easier. Take a kitchen brush to gently remove excess flour mixture if you like. We celebrate St Nicholas Day too, my mom is from Augsburg Germany. 🎄🎅

I just love Acorn-Baby-Jesus :D The whole scene is so cute and so nicely crafted and all the lights everywhere make it so cozy and beautiful. I noticed there seems to be two types of people concerning the tree: The "It is december! get the tree, hurry!"-type and the "it is not Christmas yet, so the tree is not allew inside yet"-type ^^ And it is a very beautiful tradition to have that Christmas dinner

The German Tradition is to put the Tree up on the 24th and keep it at least till January 6, maybe even February 2nd. And many still use real candles. And it is not Christmas time now. It is still Advent, or Votweihnachtszeit, literally Pre-Christmastime

We’re part German and part Irish and part polish so we celebrate adventure as well in our home. (We’re in northern Kentucky in the U.S.) we also have a nativity set as well. (We actually have several sets from when my kids were babies and every year we get a new one that we set up around the house!) I love German boyfriend’s hand made one!) when I was a kid we never put baby Jesus in the nativity until Christmas Eve because that’s why we celebrate Christmas. I’ve learned so much more about my German heritage by watching your videos! (My grandmother was half German and half Irish and my step grandmother is full German! ) I love our German Christmas traditions! I would love to see If there are any Christmas celebrations in Vietnamese culture? I recently made friends with a gentleman from India and they don’t celebrate Christmas at all. Merry Christmas Uyen and German Boyfriend! I would love to visit Germany someday! I’ve been to Ireland where our family is from, I would like to see where the other side of the family is from! Lots of love from the U.S.! ❤EDIT: I want to try the orange peel to see if it works!

We have speculaas cookies (with traditional designs) in the Netherlands but they are darker than the ones you made. There is cinnamon in the spices though! This time of year you can get luxury speculaas with almonds and also with the kind of filling you get in stollen. When I was a young child it would be a treat to get 2 speculaas cookies 'glued' together with butter, absolutely delicious! We also used to eat them on a slice of bread with butter. This was all long before speculoos spread was invented. Wishing you a lovely Christmas time!

Saint Nicholas is also traditional in Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland. Here he is called Samichlaus and is accompanied by his servant Schmutzli and a donkey. Children have to recite a poem, the good ones get sweets, nuts and tangerines, the bad ones get a birch and are threatened to be taken away to work in the woods. We also bake man shaped bread called a Grittibänz.
