For more than a millennium, the city of Bukhara, now in Uzbekistan, had been home to one of the biggest Jewish communities in Asia. But their numbers have dwindled after decades of Soviet rule.

It's so sad to see these jews go to Israel and dress like Ashkenazi orthodox Jews. Be proud of your bukharan Jewish heritage.

@@michaelrosenwald1667 my good sir, if Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews were the same people with same religious practices, then there wouldn't be two different Chief rabbis for Ashkenazi and Sephardic people. I'm simply saying that, due to the cultural norm in Israel in regards to favoritism for Ashkenazi culture, most bukharan, kavkazi, Mizrahi and Cochin Jews adopt aspects of Ashkenazi tradition and practices into their community. This in part, results in dissolution of their own culture in favor of a more acceptable culture as per Israeli society. I'll give another example. Most Israelis I've met who are of North African or middle eastern descent cannot speak their native language whether it is Arabic, darija, Ozbek, etc, on the other hand they are proficient in Hebrew and a lot of them also speak Yiddish even though they have no cultural connection to Ashkenazism.

@@SuperAltamish23 Hebrew is our native language. and no one is Israel speaks Yiddish as an everyday language other than certain Hasidic sects. Antoher thing, Uzbek wasn't even the main language Bukharian Jews spoke while living in Uzbekistan - it was Persian. You can't even get basic facts like that right and yet you feel the need to talk over us and dictate to us what languages we should speak and how we should dress.

@@shimonrubin7482 hahahahaha native language?? Hahahahaha. Bruv, according to Jewish law, a person's Jewish lineage is passed down via the mother, not the father, and many studies have been done on the DNA composition of Jewish people, and majority of them, according to Jewish law, would not be classified as Jewish because their maternal Haplogroup is of non Jewish origins because it was far more common for men of Jewish diaspora to marry outside their religion than for women. I promise you if you do a maternal DNA test on yourself, your maternal lineage would be non Jewish LoL hahahahahahaha.

@@shimonrubin7482 yes I'm well aware that most bukharan Jews were culturally Persian and spoke a judeo-persian dialect. But the Ozbek Jews spoke a turkic language that was the father of modern Ozbek and Uighur language. I would know because my mother is of bukharan Jewish ancestry. Maybe you need to educate yourself.

@@SuperAltamish23 Are you sure your mom is Bukharian? you don't actually seem to know much at all about us since you've made many inaccuracies in every comment so far. "Ozbek" Jews and Bukharian Jews is the same thing, most Jews living in Uzbekistan were Bukharian (others were Ashkenazi who came there as refugees during WW2) and the community language was always Judeo-Persian, never Uzbek, Uighur, or any other Turkic language.

I wonder how to check did any bukharan Jewish people intermarry Chinese around 500-1100 and move to China. Then we can find more Bukharan Jewish people back to Uzbekistan to sustain their culture.
