yes to a handling fee... .50 - $1.00 at this point and have always done so. I get most shipping supplies free from friends and found on my walks on trash day (embarrassing perhaps but I found a lot). So other than postage (which buyer pays too) I've very little in shipping supplies I get everything from nice bubble wrap... to air pillows... to foam wrap... to padded envelopes... to peanuts... boxes and much more. (that stuff they wrap around Hello Fresh orders is amazing!) That's a big big savings to my otherwise very small business. Fees keep increasing and there's now so many fish in the sea... every little bit helps. Great packing tips on the clock!!

Great video. Having free boxes really keeps your shipping cost down. I too have tried to get marker off wood and it is almost impossible. The best I have found is goo gone and very fine steel wool. Like the photos. Such a pretty area you live in.

Thank you! In Ohio, we had a great supplier of bubble wrap and we had a source for free boxes. Here, we can't find a local BW supplier, nor do we have a source for free boxes. Truth is, when we moved....I had hundreds of unused boxes to recycle. I always had far more than I could use and they took up a lot of room, even flattened. Lucky you!

I watched a video on taking marker off. I had some wood chairs with black permanent marker. I first used magic eraser but switched to hair spray with no alcohol and it brought most of it off. Then I wiped it with alcohol.. can't see any of the black on the chair now. I had 45 chairs to clean and it saved me so much time. Love your videos I'm trying to resell on the side and I'm learning to to buy and what to say no to. Thank you

I have a super sensitive nose. I dislike Dryer Sheet scent also, and many laundry soaps. Mildew, mold, many candles. The list goes on. I feel like my nose lets me know when something is not good for me to breathe or be around. I feel for you. Salvation Army used to be a Food Lion, I did not find much at that Salvation Army when I lived there. The thrift store was a fish market, I believe. Good thing you looked at the bowls. I've been thinking about switching to Pirate Ship. I use them for personal shipping and have been happy. Still thinking. Love you videos. Sorry about the Restore. I had a hard time finding it when it first opened some years ago.

Oh yes, our cost per pillow is much, much cheaper. We shared the cost in the "unboxing and set-up" video for our air pillow machine. Oh, the black marker....never again but it did sell! Thanks Maggie!

22:08 minutes in. I just started adding a 50cents and 75cents "handling" fee. It has helped off set some of the errors that may arise in shipping (rarely happens) or toward shipping supplies. Small enough to not be an issue but enough to give a bit of extra cushion. I have another business beyond reselling and for that I began adding a $2.50 delivery on most purchases below $75 because I personally deliver or ship - it doesn't cover all the shipping but most and the same is true with driving the items to be dropped off. Again, for the most part, people do not seem to have an issue. 36:27 you are approaching old style flue hole covers. I grew up with family who used them - and I have sold some on eBay. Nice photos at the end.

I still don't get "flue hole covers". Would they hang one from the handle that you use to close the damper in a fireplace? I'm thinking not. Where else does one find a "flue hole"?

@@annholland51 - it covers the hole from a former wood powered stove stove pipe. So, it keeps “bats” out or other critters and is a decorative cover for a hole in brick.

@@AvanteAvenue - it would depend on the manufacturer and the type of hole the flue would cover. Some do come with two wires to interlock. Some do not.

In your poshmark example you're not sharing your whole closet it only shows 48 items because that's what's on the page you have to keep scrolling down to the end for it to share all your items

I just took a look at what you've been saying. Yes, it shows only 48 items at the top but I believe it has checked "all" of the items to share? It is really necessary to scroll down through to pick everything up because when I did scroll down they were all checked? In other words, Posh is just showing us the count for what is "in view" but actually shares ALL of our listings? Thank you Sandra.

This was a wonderful video and very helpful. I am trying to figure out when to use the various forms of shipping protection - foam vs large bubble, vs small bubble. Is it just your experience that allows you to know which one to use and in which order or is there some guide to making the right choice? The bonus tip of Poshmark sharing was brilliant. I didn’t know this! And again appreciate this packing shipping insight. Another question I always wonder how you store inventory so you can locate it whenever it sells. I see you guys have things arranged on shelves by grouping like items. Wondering if I should add note to my inventory list to locate the shelf by number etc. I’m getting quite a lot of inventory from jewelry to home decor. Your Chanel is a daily must for me.

Wonderful! Glad it was helpful. For items "not" inside our main ebay area, we use the custom sku label in each listing to note where we've stored the item in the garage/bsmt area. It's a great feature that ebay added several years ago.

I wouldn’t mark on the regional boxes. I work at USPS and I believe marking would cause more issues than leaving them and shipping regular priority rates. It would be like reusing boxes only mark out old addresses and remove old barcodes

It’s the postal service that has said to use the boxes. We received an email nationwide when they discontinued the regional rates. We were told to use them up and they were no longer available for order. Customers were to use them as regular priority. I use them for shoes and I don’t mark them because I want the machines to recognize them. Marking them can confuse the scanners and can result in up charges. I’ve never had an up charge and sad to see them go

Figuring pricing gets tough as you just showed. I've mentioned that I pass on my shipping discount to the buyer. I try to price my item competitively --item price plus shipping---for a TOTAL that is in line with others that have sold. I don't promote and I don't usually take offers. What one sees is what one pays. I thought of adding 50 cents handling fee but I'm not sure how much that would affect sales. I don't sell much as it is----and that may be because I don't play eBay's games. I'd be interested to hear how that works for you. Just another fee for eBay to take a cut of? You seem to be doing well so I think you know what you are doing! By the way, another great video! edit: thought about it and maybe with items that you know will cost a lot to package--it might make sense to add a handling fee.

I'll never pass on our shipping discount (except for multiple purchases that warrant it). We have fees on shipping and packing supplies.... Others here have mentioned that they add handling fees. I'm considering for fragile items. True, another fee to be charged ebay fees. I don't know of any online store (Amazon, Walmart etc) that refunds the shipping charge because they collected a little too much. Thanks Lynne!

Let's start a campaign to take all permanent markers away from thrift store employees and garage sale sellers. Do they mark like this because it's faster than putting on a sticker? Plus it damages the piece. (It's almost as annoying as placing the sticker directly over the manufacture's mark...but don't get me started. LOL.)

I think they use permanent marker because well, it's permanent. The price sticker can't fall off or be "switched" by customers. Putting labels over the "brand" drives us crazy. We have a right to know "what we are buying!" Thanks Emily!

I will never use ebay tape. It would take more of it to secure the package because it basically needs to be overlayed on itself to secure it. My go to tape is Scotch heavy duty shipping tape. Been using it for many years and will use no other. I do like using our ebay coupon for boxes though. Link below every video for the tape I use. Thanks!
