Now that I've watched it a couple of times, I think the meaning is Love yourself, choose yourself. Everything in the world ends at some point, be it relationship or friendship but the relationship that you have with yourself lasts forever. In the first part, he was sad but everyone else was happy and then in the next he was happy and everyone was sad. Only by loving yourself can you be happy and see the world around you happy as well. Choose to love yourself first. 💜💜

Hard to understand the concept at first, but after watching many times, I believe V's message is love yourself first. V is such a damn unique creative, out of the box thinker, he truly is different from other Kpop idols. He's different, original, unpredictable and so innovative, he never fails to surpise & shock us with things he puts out. This is my personal opinion and analysis ... It will be long, but bear with me(you don't have to😊)..... I think the song talks about accepting who you are and sometimes on the way there you "die" several times. In the first part of the search, he sees many mixed couples in love and almost no same-sex couples. At the beginning, when he is standing in front of the cashiers, there is a couple of women behind him, then when he is sitting alone in the cafe, there is a couple of women behind him, but the majority are mixed couples. When he leaves the store and throws the ring in the marriage proposal, as if challenging the conservatism that married couples should be a man and a woman..and in the end he "dies". Later when he wakes up with a woman next to him, as if everything is "normal" and as if the love that should be and he should be happy, in the background all the couples arguing as if to say that there is no "correct" love. Then he sings "Wouldn't it make sense if I were yours and you could call me your baby" which means he's still questioning what's right for him. And even when they are together in a cafe hugging, there is a feeling that they are disconnected from the reality around them, not really present and then he sings "I'm over pretending so let's put an end to friends". Then they leave the cafe as if happy and he dies again.. and this time when the car approaches him he looks calm as if he understood what suits him and again sings "I'm above pretending" and then wakes up with himself.. with a man and that smile at the end says it all. I got it, this is who and what I am and I'm fine with it. The "ya" at the end that the other him is calling him , in Korean is usually used with someone very close to you (sometimes in an angry tone but sometimes in soft tone like saying, hey..I'm here listen to me) . For me this song is sort of a closure to "S 2:25 tigma". Well done Kim Tae-hyung 👏👏👏💜💜💜

One reactor said that he thinks the death scene symbolises the end of friendship in either scenario of the MV. He is happier/smiling in the second death scene because the friendship died as they became lovers, unlike in the first case. In the first case, friendship died because his feelings have turned to love but they did not become lovers. The final part shows that in the end yourself is your own friend. And his smile is for the Army who he has kept guessing and thinking and theorizing about the plot and meaning or message of his MV. He just loves to give us something to think about. Love this!

I think all of the other couples who were in love at first were all "just friends" first too...as V sings "we can never go back" if we take the next step, etc...and so they decide to take the step to love, and the rest are all in the next phase of fighting and probably can't be just friends again...he dies either way in each scenario...so then he wakes up with just himself, where he's safe.....
