Have listened to all the 'greats' play these etudes. Gryaznov is in a class by himself, combining superb technique, musicality and overall depth of interpretation. He deserves to be discovered by the whole world. Go Slava!!!

Very "Russian" in style, technique and interpretation. That's the only word to describe it other than truly magisterial. It's as if the tremendous technical problems didn't exist and oh, those inner melodies weaving and coming through! A true work of art,

I've just discovered a series of YT videos of this pianist...I wonder why isn't he more well known...he is a fantastic pianist and musician...he takes a tamer view of these etudes than I would prefer, but this performance is totally unique and beautifully recorded also...

Really a great performance! It makes such a difference when a pianist is a real musician with a deep understanding of what is playing…. so rare with Rachmaninov where the most part of the pianist are only busy making noise or trying to survive. When played like that, one perceive the intense expression and special color of his music! Bravo!

Gryaznov is the only pianist that really brings out the inner melodic lines in the beautiful D minor Etude #8. A true revealation musically.

Ojalá vengas pronto a Buenos Aires

The best version i've heard so far, especially the no.8. The end of the scherzo section (21:07) is magistral with those exuberant and colorful chords, and even better than that, the singing inner melody which he highlights (21:22 - 21:26)! Bravo!!

His interpretation of the Etude number 8 is mesmerizing... so musical it's breathtaking. I thought Volodos version was uncanny but I was wrong.
@deniszhdanov8667 жыл бұрын
It is actually, Volodos shows so high level, in this etude as well, which is far beyond Gryaznov's abilities. This is the reason why he is much much more welcome by a professional public.
@flyingpenandpaper61194 жыл бұрын
@@deniszhdanov866 It doesn't seem like that to me. I don't wish to doubt Volodos, but at the same time I don't see why you are disparaging Gryaznov.

An absolute joy to listen to. I assume you are Russian Mr. Gryaznov as you have something that only a Russian can only bring to these performances. I like yours just as much as Ashkenazy’s 1970s-80s recordings which were unsurpassed. Well done.

I am truly for saying that, but I like his interpretation of last etude much more than Lugansky's and also etude in A minor sounds much better than Lisitsa's version.
