I just got a Rode VideoMicro thinking it would pick me up well enough while behind the mic...it doesn't. Every time I turn the camera away from me I have to unmount and move the microphone around to face me. I can't believe that nobody has thought of this solution in the past, obviously when you're vlogging you're switching between yourself and what you're doing quite often. I'll have to try this out.

Thanks for a great video. I am having a small issue while editing in FCPX. The front and back audio is coming from the left and right channel respectively. So my mic finally came in today, yay! The back mic is FANTASTIC...but I'm having some issues with the front. In particular, it has trouble with peaking. I film vlogs inside theme parks where it can be very noisy and I'll need to speak up, and it doesn't seem like it does very well with that as almost all my audio is peaked. It's kinda a shame coming from the RODE VideoMicro which handled that a lot better...hopefully I'm just doing something wrong or need to change a setting on my camera but I would love some suggestions. Yes, experience the same thing. Shot an interview, with both front and back camera on at a noisy event. The front mic seems to pick up the ambiance and subject (2 feet away) sound equally. At some moment, the subject voice kinda lost in the ambiance. The back mic works well, but Im just like 12 inch away. My Rode too seems to be better in isolating the loud ambiance sound and my subject. It works well in a less noisy environment though!

Anyone with a cable/adapter solution for use together with smartphones ? I know that "TRS to TRRS" adapters exists, but I am told that these won't work, since smartphones only use a mono microphone signal. What is necessary is some kind of "audio interface" built into an adapter, that samples the analog stereo signal and transfers it to the smartphone through USB/lightning.
