The film shows Vänersborg central railway station. It shows some trains, the train station and part of its surroundings.
The station was opened in 1866, when the Uddevalla-Vänersborg-Herrljunga Railway reached Vänersborg. The entire stretch was completed in 1867. The station house, designed by Architect C Adelsköld, opened in 1866.
The station had a track hall from 1866-1940. In 1867, a "round stable" was built with 6 places, as well as a workshop building. Later, an additional locomotive shed was built. In 1899-1900, the railway was rebuilt from narrow gauge (1217 mm) to standard gauge (1435 mm). In 1940 the railway was nationalized. In 1949, parts of the workshop area were demolished in preparation for the electrification, which was completed in December 1949. The locomotive sheds were demolished during the 1950s.
In the film tghe so-called "Tyska bron" (German bridge) is also shown. It's a flap bridge, which was built during the rebuilding of the Trollhätte canal in 1910-1916. The flap bridge was built according to Strauss's system (the American Joseph Baermann Strauss b1870 constructed approx. 400 bridges, including the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco). The German firm "J Gollnow & Sohn" was responsible for the bridge construction. The bridge is 43 meters long and was completed in 1916. It was then Europe's longest cable-stayed bridge. A similar bridge can be found at Danvikstull in Stockholm, which is normally used by the Saltsjöbanan trains (due to the rebuilding of Slussen, no trains currently run over that bridge).
The film was recorded in August 2022.
