I am a civil engineer. What he is saying is correct according to Indian standars code. River sand is better to use in plastering as it gives smooth appearance because of its round surface. M sand is engineered sand , which has angular structure and has required gradation, which gives more bonding to the structure. Both sand and m sand are fine aggregates , which is used to fill up the void spaces between course aggregates in concrete. And the component which provides strength to structure is purely depend upon course aggregates (ജില്ലി കല്ല് ) .

The sole substitute for river sand is M-Sand. the greater strength of concrete compared to river sand used in concrete. I dont know any scientific terms but, ente വീടിൻ്റെ അടുത്ത ഈയിടെയായി പണിത ഒരു മതിൽ ഉണ്ട്. വെറുതെ ആ പടവ് ചെയ്ത സിമെൻ്റ് ഒന്ന് വിരൽ കൊണ്ട് ഇലക്കിയാൽ മതി അത് പൊടിഞ്ഞ് കയ്യിൽ വരും. മറിച്ച് ഒരു 15 കൊല്ലം മുന്നേ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ മതിൽ ഉണ്ട് ഇവിടെ. അത് പോട്ടികേണമെങ്കിൽ മിനിമം ഒരു hammer വേണ്ടി വരും. Diffrence b/w msand and sand is clear here.
