How do you save materials in Maya, for later use, so you don't have to start over every time? I'm coming from 3Ds Max where it is very easy to create a library file, which automatically renders a preview, how does it work here in Maya land?

In the Hypershade, select the materials you want to export, and in the Hypershade menu, go to File > Export Selected Network and that will let you export the materials to use in your own projects later.

Does Vray have ready made materials? I don't wanna waste all day trying to make an accurate shader while I am on tight deadlines. I would like to apply ready made materials and adjust them a little bit if required. So does it have anything like that by default?

Yeah, you can find ready made material libraries online. When I get time, I can put a set of simple materials for free on my artstation/gumroad.
