This beautiful song was a challenge for me to learn because of it's special dialect.
Special thanks to ‪@OvidioDeFerrari‬ for helping with the piano arrangement.
Thanks also to Melona for styling my hair!

As you mention, this is written in a rather specific dialect, but coming from a place quite near to where Hyldbakk lived, I'll say you pretty much nailed it. And thank you for your musical interpretation. The lyrics is a poem written by the Norwegian poet Hans Hyldbakk in the spring of 1945. The poem is probably both a celebration of the spring, and a longing for peace after 5 years of occupation during WW2. Henning Sommerro composed the melody in 1971. I've attempted to translate this poem to English for the non-Norwegian audience. It was not easy, because it is written in a dialect with many words not commonly used today, so I'm possibly not spot on all the time. I tried to maintain the rhytm, but I was unable to make it rhyme. The title "Vårsøg" is a combined word, made from "vår" and "søg". "Vår" means 'spring', I'm not sure what "søg" means, maybe 'longing', or 'craving'. "Svealiå" is probably a name of a place, where "li" is a general term for a steep terrain, meaning 'the steep area called "Svea"'. I see the sun shine bright on Svealiå. The spring will come, I feel it in my soul. A sighing song surrounds each valley hillside, and I am calmed by soothing southern breeze. The summer brings a beauty to the mountains. There I will walk and listen to the creeks. I'll climb atop the steepest rocky mountains , and wander through the heather, moss and grass. The scent of grass will cover every hillside, the sun will shine, and bluebells chime with joy. I'll find a spot where ponds are clear and silent, and knolls will shield me when I soak the sun. Words can't express how much I yearn while waiting to see the sunshine reach the snowy peaks. It tells me spring is close enough to promise another summer's mine to live again. I know for sure the creeks will lie awaiting beneath the ice-sheath, cooling every quench. And when the fall collects its final clover, I'll thank another summer for its grace.

You never cease to amaze ! In many ways, not knowing Norwgian myself made your presentation this pieces even more ethereal and mysterious, sort of like the book title Mysts of Avalon. And it brought out an even deeper respect for you that you would prepare and present a song in a dialect which is not familiar to you. You're brave. Thanks!

I took the liberty of adding the Norwegian lyrics for this song. It’s become a song that makes me miss Norway, because I think it’s so “ultra” Norwegian. I’ve been in the US for almost 25 years. And, I am so impressed with the way you sing it. I listened to it a couple of times before I realized Norwegian is probably not your native language. You could have fooled me. Thank you so much for bringing a bit of “home” to me. It takes me back to the 70s when Henning Sommero turned this poem into a hit.
