Thank you so much for making this video, it got me thinking. Years ago, I started reading Naipaul but at the time I could not find my way into his books. Maybe I stopped reading too soon. (But between us (I would never admit this, of course): I was probably influenced by the fact that a person I didn’t like at all rhapsodized about Naipaul which led me to the razor-sharp conclusion that this author was not for me. (haha, normally, I can better think logically 😃, at least I hope so.) Well, those are the irrational moments in a reader’s life.) And again: thank you so much for your recommendations. It promises to be a great summer with excellent books. Que pases un buen fin de semana amigo ¡Hasta pronto!

¡Muchas gracias por tu comentario, amiga! 😃 That's all right; I think most of us have at some point allowed the opinion of a person we dislike (or that of a person we like, for that matter) influence our perception of a given book or author. If you want a quick experience of Naipaul, The Mystic Masseur is great; A House for Mr. Biswas is like that, but more serious in tone and more ambitious in scope. ¡Hasta pronto, querida amiga, y muchos saludos!

My favourite author who captured life here in Trinidad (and judged it) fairly. I aspire to do the same from my own perspective.

Best wishes, Shawnelle! 😃 An amazing author, for sure. I need to read more by him, as it has been a while. Thank you for watching and commenting, my friend!

@@JorgesCorner I'm awaiting the delivery of my own copy of Biswas as well as Magic Seeds. Currently being seduced by Half A Life, which is FUNNY! No problem!

I'll keep Half a Life in my mental list of books to be read, then. 😃 I have a copy of A Bend in the River, so that might be my next Naipaul read. Happy reading!

Naipaul is a very good writer unfortunately i read his novels after his india a million mutinies, which created a certain image of him and his thinking and that colored my reading of a house for mr.biswas. also jorge I will be really happy if you include S.Hareesh's Moustache and Perumal Murugans Season of Palm , One Part woman, Pyre and Poonachi to your reading list. I really want to know what you think about these novels.

I totally understand. Naipaul also wrote about Argentina, in "The Return of Eva Perón," not very flatteringly, I understand. (I have not read the text yet, however.) The authors you mention sound fascinating, my friend! Thank you so much for the recommendations! 😃
