They didn't quite have the "legacy sequel" formula cracked yet. This should have been a continuation of the original with Jane Badler as her original character. Sure, the old series got ridiculous with budget cuts and soap opera scenes but Cobra Kai proved that even the weakest parts of a classic franchise's canon can be salvaged as starting points for new stories if the writers commit to owning all of it.

I didn't even know this existed. Did they ever explain why the aliens were still dressing up as humans? I know in the TV series they came up with an excuse that the UV levels in our atmosphere were deadly to the aliens, but Diana's down a cellar here.

It is two different Dianas. Just like in the final episode of the 2009 series they brought in Marc Singer as a different character than his 80's role. Against the V's but completely different character.
