Utter perfection! The kind of music that makes me glad to be alive! Not only is each piece beautifully composed but the underlying optimism and faith in humanity with which Novak imbues them is very moving. Church, children, lovers, and folk musicians become metaphors for the wonders of existence. Even "At Night", a lovely nocturne, is soothing and gentle. One of my all-time favourite suites....

Yes indeed this is another composer whose work deserves to be much better known for what it brings to the world itself and how despite the unpleasant things that are always with us the world's beauty is here always for us to experience

The 4th movement, "The Band", is also very nice. And also very, very Czech.

Certain record labels are treasures, national treasures I mean. Melodiya for Russian music, Lyrita for British music, Sterling for Swedish music, CBS for American music and Supraphon for Czech/Slovankian music. I used to buy as many Supraphon recordings as I could find of Czech music; invariably, there would be a gem on the LP. This was one such LP. Thanks for the upload.

badinage100 Much the same here. There was also some Janáček and Suk, plenty of Martinů too. This LP was for me a standout though. "Among Children" is breathtakingly beautiful. Then there was the lovely coupling, the dramatic overture Maryša. Gorgeous stuff, once heard never forgotten. Oh and as for Lyrita, all that Bax, Ireland, Moeran, Alwyn, Hoddinott, Benjamin, etc - fabulous!

Mr. Rodders, you bear a strong resemblance to young Tchaikovsky, don't know why.
