@flinchey yes, but twin, i4, v6 v8 i etc etc are not harmonically balanced, and cant be without a balance shaft. crank weights take away the vibrations from piston movement, but add side to side vibrations flat 4 engines are natrually balenced as well, but generally engines with more pistons in a straight line are easier to balance

@cgvtico 94 lude owner here, h22a1 vtec at 9000rpm on stock internals for the mf win. 200hp for a 2.2L N/A 4 banger isn't bad either. zorst intake and tune makes it more lie 250hp no sweat. pity it's fwd though. saving grace is the rear wheels turn, that's just cool lol.

@chaosflakes your a honda fan, honda makes v6s the c and the j series, hondas f1 engine is a v8... btw, the ls7 STILL has more hp/pound then the highest hp per liter engine honda makes but then again when your racing behind a keyboard hp/liter might make some difference then

@mageac v12? i6 is the most balanced configuration 2 together is still balanced they're not less efficient either, you can gear a big v8 to get the same economy as a ford focus if you really want, but thats no fun (like, 1200rpm or less at 60mph sorta deal) and space wise... most 4cyl engine bays have MORE than enough room to fit a v6 in. v6's are a ton more compact than a straight 6 (half the length, not much wider).. 4cyls are mounted E-W so are REALLY WIDE

@cgvtico pound per hp the ls7 is pretty much the same as an fc20.... which is the highest hp/liter n/a engine produced... stock obviously... even the b16 weighs just a hair over 300 lbs... and makes less then 200 hp... the ls7 weighs 475-500 and makes over 500 hp... about 30% more hp per pound stock for stock... so when honda makes a v8 version it should weigh about 550 pounds and have 400 hp... impressive!

@ghostcivic99 i can build a 500 hp v8 for pretty darn cheap, probably less the a popular honda engine block... a local shop built a 400 hp 350 for $2000, less then most decent brand turbos...

@chaosflakes ah your one of those types, if the engine in in a v shape then its no good, the fact is inline engines take more room, need bigger engine bays and end up making the cars more inefficient. and pretty much every car company makes v block engines :S

@ppdd5 what the hell does doubling the weight have anything to do with the power to weight ratio of an engine....the f20c has 247 hp, and weighs 325 pounds so .76 hp per pound... the ls7 makes 505 hp, and weighs 490 pounds...so 1.03 hp per pound... where im from 1.03 is MORE then .7 lets see now... holden, isuzu,opel, hummer, saab,Vauxhall,daewoo, suzuki, all either owned by, or in partnership with gm.... oh an btw honda uses gm diesels....

@ppdd5 ... so take the indy car engine on a 1/4 mile and see which one gets worked.... its just as relevant... the fact is... not even the fc20 which is the highest production hp/l in the world has as good hp/pound as an ls7... which makes about 50 less hp per liter.... weight actually matters... amount of liters does not... also honda doesn't pay thier workers tons of money and give great pensions only to have said workers buy cheap imported cars and destroy the economy
