That is just downright clever. Soon you might want to consider finding biodiesel to burn in it. The new ultra low sulfur fuels do not protect the mechanicals as well as high sulfur which is now illegal to use on roads in USA, don't know where you are from. But the biodiesel will lubricate and prolong the parts. In warm weather you can operate on pure vegetable oil IF it has been processed for burning in engines. It would smell like a deep fryer going down the road with little or no smoke.

... yes... Not quite my scene, I'm a sports bike rider and racer, ZX14 roadbike and R6 race bike, so I don't quite envy your machine. The neck, back bone and front forks are from a 1975 CB500T the rest is fabbed from .083"x1" DOM. Tank and fenders are also one off customs
@PrivatePilot199913 жыл бұрын
@lambdavi You might want to read his post again. It doesn't say it is based on a CB500T but instead says it "Started" life as a CB500T. Looks like he used the frame, modified it into a ridgid, used the forks and front wheel and brake setup . I agree though, he did a good job. I wonder what type of mileage it gets. With the cost of fuel today building a bike that looks good and probably gets excellent mileage if a great job

The bore on the drive clutch is 1" no taper. The driven clutch was 3/4" but for lack of good hardened shaft I kept breaking it. It was bored out to 1" also. Yes it works the same as a snowmobile or quad. The clutch set I'm using is set up for the SAE Mini Baja competition.

Our engines were bought factory direct from Punsun. The wastegate is set at 7lbs. boost. I limit the fuel so it never runs that high
@ppger4411 жыл бұрын
Thats like the centrifugal snowmobile drive system, but, what is the MPG on that bike? How far can you go on one tank of diesel?
@SeanWhite10 жыл бұрын
average fuel milage is 100mpg and it will go a 180 miles on a tank. your ass will be wore out before it runs out of fuel
@SeanWhite12 жыл бұрын
It is a centrifugal CVT transmission. And yes it is like a snowmobile. These clutches are also used on most quads, and side by sides. They really don't slip that much if they did you would fry the belt really fast. I put 4000miles on the first belt. It was not worn out so it is now the spare. The cost of a 5 speed and the primary drive would triple the cost of the bike. And it would not perform any better.
@brybish12 жыл бұрын
that is a hot bike I would love to try it. 20hp and a shed load of torque I hope.

@Shadowpillar We bought the engines factory direct. The company name is Punsun but they do not have tier 3 certification and can no longer ship to the US . They have an Ebay store

The main problem I see with a variable clutch is there is no way to push start the bike if your battery is dead or the engine won't crank. I suppose you could yank all day on the cord. Many times on my bike if the engine won't crank, push starting it until its got a nice little roll and putting it into 2nd gear fires it up every time.
@SeanWhite11 жыл бұрын
Already done. I don't ride it any faster but I do like the extra acceleration. Lost some of its bark with the turbo.

This bike started life as a 1975 CB500T I doubt it pollutes anymore than the original engine did. There are emission standards for new bikes but back in 1975 as long as it was not burning coal it would pass. In the case of an endro if it was not manufactered for of road MTO will say no. Because they don't meet the standards required ie. lights, brake, tires, sound level. There is currently no emmisions test for motorcycles in Ontario. My bike is registered at a 1975 CB500T.

Looks great, man. Respect! 20hp sounds not like much, but those are diesel-horses with tons of torque. ;) Really cool bike! I want to make also a diesel powered vehicle and I know about the massive torque of diesel engines. My vehicle will be a street legal sofa, (w. 4HP 230ccm diesel, that's enough for 15mph limit) and I will do it with hydrodynamic drive. That needs no clutch, no gear and no brakes (the hydro engines can break too) and the diesel can always run in it's best preformance RPM.
@0ddba1l12 жыл бұрын
Did you have a problem with the fact that they only like to run between 3000 - 3600 rpm and stall out at low speed due to the injection pump timing? I have this problem!

Daihatsu did a 3-cylinder 1000cc diesel, 40bhp non-turbo and 60bhp turbo versions. They were fitted into the Charade car. Depending on where you are, they might not have been sold in your market. The Daihatsu lumps have been successfully fitted to BMW gearboxes and run in R80 or R100 frames by zoze crazee Chermans. Google it for a look.

Speaking of clutch...there isn't one..a centrifugal one at least. It's the front variator pulley that closes down on the belt, right? If that's so, it appears to constantly rub against the belt even when idling. Won't that wear it down? Also, does the whole engine swivel backward when the front pulley gears up as the rear pulley seems fixed? Great looking bike!
@creamyfilling10212 жыл бұрын
that looks like a centrifugal clutch from a snowmobile. don't those have a quite a bit of slipage? i'd think a regular old 5 speed with a handlebar clutch would be more efficient. (although probably a lot more work to install)
