VÉVAKI comment on the song: “Gestaþáttr is the first part of the poem Hávamál (the sayings of Hár) which covers how to be a good guest and a good host, as well as containing many other mysterious verses of gnomic wisdom. Since this song is based in Eddic poetry, we decided to do a lyric video so you could see the old Icelandic and English translations side by side.”

Interesting. However it seems that in the way it is presented, it is more like a musical edict for a society preparing for war.

Wardruna can't be praised often enough not only for their monumental music but also for the fact they've opened the gates for this genre and its artists to get the deserved recognition. Can't wait for this album.

Wardruna and Heilung are the BIG 2. Danheim is a close 3rd IMHO. But there are over 100 artists/groups doing Nordic/Germanic Neo-folk that are right up there with the best of them. Forndom is another. Runfell. Nemuer. The list goes on and on. Gealdyr. Myrkur. Eivor. Kati Ran. Herknungr....

My Favorite is that this has been born directly out of Black Metal. Wardruna, Myrkur, Heilung, and even the Seasons of Mist record label are all very well known for their Black Metal contributions. This feels like the natural progression of that early anger! From the ashes of the burning churches rises the new northern heathen! P.S. Nytt Land and Skald as 2 more great top tier groups in this genre!

Very deep and tense. I love the sombre tone of the Havamal verses with this. It paints a sinister and distrusting atmosphere.

@SigurboiGretarsson2 жыл бұрын
This is essentially a bind rune containing the initials of each band member. The runes are not typical though. They are found in the book Galdraskræða (sorcerer’s screed) a compilation of old Icelandic magical staves written down and published in the 1940’s by a man named Jochum Magnús Eggertsson aka Skuggi (shadow).
