I agree, these double reeds are the coolest thing! Got them a little while ago, and haven't been able to play to much with them yet as I'm in the middel of moving house, but made a short demo on my channel and trying them out in a fugue(ish) I composed, and am blown away by the combination of modelled respons and sampled sound! They nailed it 🙂 Can't wait to try the out in a more orchestral setting.

Thanks for this nice video walkthrough about the V Winds Double Reeds library. I do like this library and the sample/modeling technology, I think those instruments sound expressive... I was very tempted when it first came out but then decided to wait for the flutes and clarinets that are supposed to be released before the end of this year with a bundle price for all the woodwinds together. This developer is one of the few to watch for future releases. Best regards, MaxT

In lieu of a breath controller I recommend a MIDI expression pedal assigned to CC11 with the mod wheel re-assigned to CC1 modulation/vibrato (at least that’s what I’ve always done with both this product and (previously) Acoustic Modeling and Sample Modeling’s similar products

I do use the SWAM Flutes (with the TEC Breath controller) and find these totally virtual instruments really great and natural sounding. OTOH I use the Kontakt based Sample Modeling Trumpet, that I find a lot more natural than the SWAM based brass. Similarly I find the SWAM Saxes not really that natural. I do have the Sample Modeling strings and the SWAM Cello. Here the sound of the sampled strings is more natural, but trying to solo (with a Seaboard - as trying a BC on strings with me always sounds "blown"), the SWAM is *a lot* easier to play. Hence this new library seems really interesting.... -Michael

@@SecondTierSoundI only do live playing. Midi composers might get totally different impressions. As you showed me the V instruments and I am considering buying a virtual trombone, I took a liste to their examples. For me #1 is Sample Modeling, #2 is SWAM, and V is only #3.

What strings did you use at the beginning? Also what are those other woodwind libraries, eg flute?
@SecondTierSound

I made that one a while ago, and I think it is all Hollywood orchestra by eastwest. I like those strings, but today I use other strings.

If this is used with UVI Falcon instead of Workstation, then does it actually reveal some more details about how the instruments are modeled? Like is this actually completely programmed using UVI Falcon? The sound is quite impressive and having just started learning Falcon and also a bit about modeled instruments, this would be a great insight into how such natural sounding instruments are modeled under the hood.

I believe this works in the UVI Workstation player. If it works with the other one, I didn't know that. That's cool.

I don't have a breath controller and I don't record my midi notes live (I'm too clumsy in the fingers). Is there a way to have an auto decay? Like on that oboe you showed suddenly not sounding natural when you didn't use the breath controller, that suggests me you have to manually make each note decay
@SecondTierSound
@SecondTierSound Жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to use the modwheel, or a fader. But you have to do that on any instrument really to make it sound natural. You'll get the hang of it eventually. Otherwise you do it in post

@@SecondTierSound Yeah it might be possible to just record the modwheel data on its own with like one note and then copy the data onto the existing midi notes or something like that. Thank you for answering!

TEC. Swedish company. They have a few versions. I forgot exactly what mine is called, but mine can be bit into as well, and has head tilting.

Hi Sam, I bought a Double reeds and Clarinets from VWinds two days ago. So far I have found that playing the same note repetitively sounds really awful. I tried the double tonguing technique with the bassoon (without using the breath controller and piano, just my DAW). When the RR was off, it sounded like a "machine gun", with the RR on it soundedeven worse.. Do you think there is any way to fix this problem or is it just a limitation of the product?

Hello there! Well, unfortunately this instruments does best when you actually perform it in real time with a midi controller, and even better with a breath controller. At least you must use the modulation wheel heavily as you play. Just using midi notes in the midi editor with the exact same length, quantizing, velocity and modulation will sound robotic as there is no difference between the notes. Every note will sound more human and realistic as you give each note varied data in terms of the above mentioned parameters If all the mididata is the exact same, you can't expect a varied result, and yes it will sound like a maschine gun. I wouldn't compose in the midieditor with this instrument. I would perform it, and then edit where needed. In fact, no acoustic instrument sounds particualrly good if you just program in the data via the editor. Cheers!

@@SecondTierSound Thanks for the quick reply. My problem is that unfortunately I can't play the piano, so I have to create all my music in a midi editor. I'll try to get to grips with that. Take care! Jan

You can program all that in too. Just make sure to vary the input of the velocity, length and modulation
