v1.16: Temporal distortions

Some weird new thing for the upcoming v1.16. By the way, I post most updates on discord, in case you are not following there already.

Holy shit the gear spinning only makes this thing feel more like a broken part of a much greater system; this is the epitome of exposing yourself to the deteriorating parts of reality. You're staring into a broken hole in both time and space and it's just... vibing in the middle of a field. That's existentially horrifying. Legit got chills seeing the gear spin that quickly.

How about at the end of the rotation of the gear, it stops abruptly and (to create creepiness) plays a loud metallic noise (something like a grinding or dull thump)? Although it may be a low, stretched trombone sound. It is quite likely that this can be a distorted dial tone.

I like how it sounds like the inside of a creaking, broken down factory near the distortion to fit the rust and metal decay motif temporal instability has. Looking forward to updates on fighting drifters and how combat works!

Instead of having enemies spawn just in dark spots you could have them come exclusively from rifts and of course you could add more wild creatures and other dangers out there. Players shouldnt become to comfortable :D also we need shields or some better combatmechanics in order to counter the upgraded drifters, you want to add the ability to throw things for them right? Looking forward to what you are cooking up!

I like how this game has some stalker features. Like temporal storms, unstable regions, and now distortions. You can make them reappear in different places after every storm, or make them more of a drifter spawner, that you can also seal. So many possibilities.

@@Mukuta_Pavlov even generate some temporal artifacts to collect (after clearing that kind of anomalies)...dang there is a lot of cool stuff to add stalker related!

I agree, anomaly that pushes you away from it, hard to see visually, just a slight hint of distortion like a ripple of reflection... Remembering the good old STALKER games.

That's...interesting. I kind of like the lore of a world that's gotten kind of weird, but this and the ranged drifters are both going to make the early game absolutely terrifying. Please tell me there's a way that we can config the frequency of these things. Do they stay put, or do they come and go?

Haha, yes! Really could be something out of "Пикник на обочине", Roadside picknick. Now ruins need to generate strange artifacts that can be used for something useful but it is obvious that we cannot use them to their full potential because it is impossible for us to understand them. Like a caveman knapping a stick of RAM into some really nice arrowheads.

Would love to see fruit tree seeds and saplings. Cuttings are very cool, but they shouldn't be the only way to make new trees grow

Apples and some other fruit don't grow true-to-type from seeds so cuttings are the way to go if you want good apples. I think it's a realistic approach.

I honestly hate these. We built a small home on our server which was hard enough because the rift kept changing every 12 hours, and when we finished 2 portals spawned right next to each other immediately after we constructed the floor inside of the floor. 70% of my gameplay the last 100 hours since the last update has been just hiding in a box and honestly it's not very fun.

Sadly temporal storms are more of a flavor thing. They are not very challenging because you can just skip them by sleeping.

You can always abuse the ability to modify terrain. Even with ranged drifters, stone slab huts and pillaring with hay *should* work.

I am sure some protection will come. Yesterday i think there was some shield picture in Discord Devlog. I hope, together with some knockback we will be able to push drifters back in their pits where they belong. :D
