I didn't had a significant effect between X and Y but when I did the mediation analysis the results were significant. How can I interpret this?

This is extremely helpful. Does the total effect between X and Y have to be significant for me to add a mediator and see if there is a mediation effect? I have heard that sometimes we will not see a total effect between X and Y, but after adding a mediator (M), we could find a significant indirect effect. Is this true?

Very very helpful. For my study tho, I'm using two mediators, so i make 2 tests instead of one. However the direct effect is significant one time but the other time is not. Im confused because i thought it was the exact same relation...
